When do you guys put lipo batteries to storage charge? Normally, cheaper chargers can't discharge quickly enough. What's your practices ?
Putting LiPo at storage charge |
20-Jan-2017, 12:48 PM Always in storage when not flying mroe than a week. I only charge them the night before I go flying. Had my lipos for well over a year now and are still performing great. I tend to try and land so resting voltage is around 3.7 per cell. Failing (higher) that I take my smoke stopper and short it with an xt60 and allow the car headlamp to drain the the battery. However if you discharge them too fast, then you are doing more harm then good. 20-Jan-2017, 12:49 PM I used to be very lazy with discharging until I read up on how it affects the quality and life span of a lipo. Now, if I won't be flying a charged lipo within 24 hours, I'll most likely discharge it (or multiple lipo's) on the parallel charge board of my charger. Sure, it takes a while but I'm usually around my lipo charger to begin with. 20-Jan-2017, 01:07 PM If you are not thinking i'm going to fly tomorrow again, charge them then only to storage voltage. 21-Jan-2017, 01:30 AM Keep your lipos @ storage level if they are not going to be used within a day or so. Fully charged or discharged for periods longer than this can cause a significant loss of # of charge cycles, and risk swelling/puffing issues on the next discharge/charge, especially in a high amp draw application. Also results in cell voltage differences. Not to say this will all happen the very first time you forget, but it does really add to the performance and cycles your pack will last. Protect your investment and put your lipos on storage voltage when not being used in the next 24hrs. Thats my practice and it has served me very well even on the much less expensive brands of lipos |
