Edit Reason: Updating per member suggestions ) Ok everyone, after lots of reseach and brainstorming for what I want in my first FPV Racer, this is what I have come up with. Please let me know if anything stands out, that doesnt work well together, or if there is a better option for something with similar price and better value/features. The Quad! Frame- QAV-R 220 clone w/ 4mm arms (also 3D motor guards and vtx mount) NOX5R FC- XracerF303 v3.1 (sbus)(D-shot)(plan on using betaflight) PDB- DemonRC Pulse ( Thread) ESCs- Racerstar MS35A (D-shot)(blheli_s) Motors- Emax RS2205S 2300kv Props- dal 5040x3 and 5045x3 (cheap and tough) Kingkong 5x4.5x3 The Radio! Tx- Taranis Q X7 (Im a bit of an artist, so white will be epic! ) Rx- X4R-SB (sbus) (*been thinking about doing custom art work for peoples transmitters, goggles and such, let me know if I should start a thread on that!) FPV system! Cam- Runcam Swift 2 (basic OSD, voltage, timer, pilot)(mic) VTx- Eachine TX526 (rp-sma)(switchable, 40ch w/raceband) VRx/Goggles- Eachine Goggles 2 (diversity, 40ch w/raceband, audio) Antennas- Aomway 5.8ghz (2x rhcp + 2x lhcp)*hope to race w/friends (rp-sma) (*patch comes w/EG2s) Edit: Decided to start with the Foxeer's. (Thx Tozes! Neat colors too ) So thats what I have. I tried to leave room in the system for crazy motors and props down the road as well as keeping temps low for now. (Have had great success building my ground vehicles by setting up the electcal sytems a bit overkill, to keep electrical components cool)(heat is the enemy!) Let me know your thoughts! Thanks for looking! I moved from aomway to foxeer because of that. Btw, do you mean 5.8ghz on the antennas? They are inexpensive, durable and have a nice flight characteristics. If however you are into the "powaaaah!" then get few packs of racekrafts 5051 or similiars. for learning to fly i'd recommend 2 or more boxes of KK what you could potentially change is the fc for soul... you will have more options (like raceflight) - validate if this is in your budget (if yes you will save on shipping as you will be ordering the pdb already) - i've been using soul for some time now - so far no complaints. radio... BOOOO! no flysky and... get it, build it, fly it, crash it ... and make a video of it All the best Grzesiek (Grisha/ Greg) Curently flyable: Nox 5, Minimalist 112 Bench / in progres: fixing Nox 3, Scrap thinking about building: 450 Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 (01-Feb-2017, 08:05 PM)Drone0fPrey Wrote: thx OP edited. Here's another suggestion: http://www.getfpv.com/lumenier-axii-5-8g...-2pcs.html They also have LHCP (they also have SMA versions but those are backordered). Not cheap, but neither is some of the other stuff in your list. • Posts: 2,410 Threads: 136 Likes Received: 1,790 in 1,052 posts Likes Given: 3,302 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 50 (02-Feb-2017, 01:15 AM)Grisha0 Wrote: i'd consider (not saying anything 2600 kv motors) i use exactly those you mention and they are great powerhorses, but i didn't test the 2600 so we could see them in action So go for 2600kv's? I could always tone them down right. Love everything DemonRC! Only reason I didnt go with the Soul f4, is I was nervous if I messed up a solder or somethin dumb I'd ruin a fairly pricey FC. Now that being said, Im not bad at soldering, and I am a perfectionist, but I have never built on a hobby grade FC. Am I overthinking it here? I do that lol. Cuz now I want to run the Soul f4 even more (02-Feb-2017, 01:15 AM)Grisha0 Wrote: radio... I was a flysky fan untill I was convinced to get a taranis. I haven't looked back. Posts: 195 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 86 in 54 posts Likes Given: 79 Joined: Aug 2016 Reputation: 6 Here's my 2 cents on the motors - I got big eyes and put 2600kv red bottoms (the older model) for my QAV-X back then and now I wish I hadn't done that. They're really tough on the battery specially when you pair them with heavy props like those dals you're looking at. I'm using the kingkongs which are pretty similar to the dal and the battery gets really warm if I fly hard, not to mention that the air-time is close to none... Also heavier props benefit from higher torque so lower kv can have the edge here, specially when picking up from low RPM. To get the best results it's good to compromise somehow, I'd say high kv + light prop or low kv + heavy (durable) prop is a good rule of thumb. Or if you want to fly like Mr. Steele, then low kv + light prop (and hope the skill comes with it ) This being said, if all you care is POWAH, then 2600+ is the way to go PS: Taranis FTW Posts: 2,410 Threads: 136 Likes Received: 1,790 in 1,052 posts Likes Given: 3,302 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 50 02-Feb-2017, 03:01 PM (This post was last modified: 02-Feb-2017, 03:19 PM by Drone0fPrey.) Id also have that punch I would want to get out of a bad situation so to speak. I build around very torquey, low kv motors in my ground vehicles 2200kv and gear it taller to compensate. Very low temps and can run a whole 5500mah pack without a cool down, vs those guys with 4600kv set ups, which when geard right, can keep their power at a certain point of speed for track racing or speed runs. (And having to cool down immediately after the 3 lap heat or 2 passes @ high speed runs) My philosophy here with ground vehicles means i can run any gearing ratio i want and still never overheat, even in tall grass. Think I will stick with the 2300kvs. Thanks guys! • Posts: 947 Threads: 66 Likes Received: 350 in 248 posts Likes Given: 164 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 34 I had a few batteries with the rcx 2206 2400kv v2 motors today and they felt nice and powerful with Dal cyclone v1 props. I feel 2300kv is just a little bit low, and 2600kv is too much, so 2400kv could be a nice inbetween Posts: 947 Threads: 66 Likes Received: 350 in 248 posts Likes Given: 164 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 34 Btw, The Dal cyclones v1 are the best durable prop I have flown til now. I have also ordered a set of the cyclone v2 so hopefully they are even better. So I decided to go with the RD-210 frame from BG, seemed a good bit tougher vs QAV-R.... Then as I place my rather large order BG slaps it on backorder until begining of March (too impatient for a first time build with all other pieces on their way ) So after some talking to BG they canceled it for me so the rest of that order could ship. So now I needed a frame that would also use the orange m3x30mm knureld standoffs orderd as spares. Well I said screw it and just went with what I really wanted in the first place... DemonRC NOX5R!!! Still has 4mm arms and has all plastice 30mm standoffs which can be beefed up some with the aluminum ones for a first time "hobby grade" build/crash/build n crash trying crazy stuff I could never do with my angle mode toys! Decided on the kingkong 5x4.5x3 props also! Thx for the suggestions everyone ALSO! I found tattus (4s) on ebay for a good deal Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/322423596419 They arrived at my door in Ohio USA in 3 days!
