Orqa FPV.Ctrl Transmitter
#31
Ivan Jelušić is right about something. People entering the RC world can be very confused and disappointed from huge number of manufacturers, standards, "standards", nothing is compatible with anything, etc...

But another vendor lock-in product cannot help to this situation.

Having personally jumped through a bunch of hobbies over the last few decades, mis-information, complex standards, incompatibility etc are common issues.

Even standard consumer products will have similar problems.

This is not unique to FPV and so lets not label this an FPV specific problem.

Most vendors will offer you a locked in product with promises of a uniform and smooth user experience. We all know well enough how the world works by now. Its just a business model.

There will be several newcomers that will buy the Orqa FPV.CTRL and soon realize how locked in the ecosystem is. We will meet them soon on this forum Smile

Orqa are launching the FPV.Ctrl transmitter today at 20:00 CET on Kickstarter with tiered pricing that changes as the units sell. That "lottery" selling mechanism already seems to have alienated a number of potential customers who are unhappy about it, and I personally also think it's quite a bizarre way to sell their new controller.

Just the controller with no module:-
  • The first 100 units will be sold at 49 Euros.
  • The next 400 units will be sold at 59 Euros.
  • The final 500 units will be sold at 69 Euros.
The controller bundle with a Ghost UberLite module included:-
  • The first 500 units will be sold at 79 Euros.
  • The next 400 units will be sold at 89 Euros.
  • The final 500 units will be sold at 99 Euros.
After all of the limited offer price units have sold, the price will then go back up to the original full amount of 79 Euros and 105 Euros respectively and I guess those full price units will then be sold via Orqa's own web shop.

Yes. Campaign starts today! ?

These are the pricing options for today's launch...

And for anyone who was wondering about future compatibility with ELRS, Orqa have also now confirmed their position regarding support for the CRSF protocol that is required for Crossfire or ELRS compatibility, which is exactly as we suspected. So this now makes it crystal clear that the FPV.Ctrl transmitter was only ever intended to work with Ghost modules.

Ivan Jelušić Wrote:We are focusing on our integration with IRC Ghost. We currently have no plans to extend our support to Crossfire or ELRS.

User experience of the overall product is key feature. We can not achieve that with anyone else other than Immersion RC. Also, quality and robustnest of their system is better and with UberLite module we achieved optimal pricing. IRC Ghost is the best system out there.

Kickstarter???

This whole thing is smelling more and more like a way for Orqa to raise money for what they really want to do on the commerical / government side.

They say that shipping is on 15th December. I think they are only using the Kickstarter system so they can implement the tiered selling price depending on the number of units sold.

It's still an odd decision though IMO. Why not just sell all the launch units at a discounted offer price and keep all of the early adopters happy? Why put people through this "lottery" type of asshattery where the quicker you can get to the checkout, the lower the price you will hopefully pay. So if you are too slow you will end up paying more than the guy who was just in front of you in the queue. What complete BS.

Well after 3 hours the Kickstarter has only attracted 48 sales out of the 2400 units available at the discounted launch price. I have to say that I'm surprised because I expected it to do a lot better than that with it being the afternoon in most of the US and early evening in Europe.

Lost for words.

What are they thinking? Kickstarter? Locked ecosystem?

Well another 12 hours later and 15 hours into the Kickstarter launch and there are still only 55 purchases. Prior to launch there were people on social media who were unhappy that Orqa were releasing sales to the whole world rather than giving their "VIP" group exclusive early access. I guess everyone including Orqa probably thought that the controllers would all sell out like hot cakes in the first few hours. It seems those people had nothing to worry about because there are still plenty of the original units up for grabs at the lowest tier price.

none of my buddies got attantion about that controller until i named it, even the orca fpv.one owners didnt know anything about. hyping the product was totaly missed this time, the reason i know about it is snows thread.

there was allready changes in the transmitter module market, new options; tracer, elrs, ghost
while the most pilots willing to change already did a decision - its not only about marketing, it seems to be also the market situation...

Just wait for ELRS 2.0 to come out. ...Most transmitters will also connect via BT to phone or whatever. Big Grin
You can then change any radio with transmitter bay into a BT joystick.

As weird as this product and everything surrounding it is, I do hope Orqa remains a player in FPV. TBS comes close but no one really matches their eye for styling. Still shaking my head that they didn't decide to up the Mambo design concept with their own expertise.

I am still shaking my head thinking why not ELRS? Why Ghost?
