ON OFF SWITCH

Good morning guys, after suffering the accident with the drone i'v been thinking if it would be a god idea to install an on off switch on the drone so it won't start by it self due to an electronic failure. I would like to hear your pinion on this matter.

What would the switch do that simply unplugging the battery would not sufficiently address? No matter what, you have to deal with touching the craft to prepare it for a flight.

I have had a machine go rogue and attempt to run away on initial power up when I first started learning. A switch would not really fixed this. It would have exhibited the behavior as soon as power was applied to the FC anyway.

I guess if you are not getting close to anything, it would not hurt too much...though a switch will inevitably end up being a choke point for high amp calls which could lead to spontaneous FC reboots (never a good thing). Also, what happens when the switch gets hit with scraggle and such while flying close proximity? I would rather the craft have a chance to right itself than be powered down accidentally.

While I can see the thought behind the idea, there are too many potential downsides with nothing really gained that I can figure. What was your incident and how would you apply a switch to alleviate it?

Pre-arm switch, arm switch and set your main flight mode as acro. Alternatively you could plug in the quad with a usb to your phone. This triggers a dfc/usb flag and wont let the escs initialize

i would suggest „prearm“ aswell for more safty, but there are always some danger things, beleive in the software and hardware is needed to fly without fear. sadly you had this accident, i did read your thread but i dont remember, was your accident while it was disarmed, a fault by the software?

there are other things like „motorstop“ feater, the props wouldnt spin at zero throttle position. some peoples say its more dangerous to use motorstop, because of the spining props as missing sign for a armed copter.
some use throttle position as a „prearm switch“, because it shouldnt arm when there is a throttle signal.
i personaly dont like this versions, i look at the armswitch as a holy thing, touch it with the highest respect and mental attantion about, i hope this will prevent me befor a mistake or an accident.

if there is fear about, i wouldnt hide fpv xD go with a 1s toothpick like the „betafpv hx100 se“ and you will earn trust about. do not miss the pleasure

The OP is talking about his incident in the thread linked to below. The quad was disarmed with the transmitter switched off, and when he took the quad to the bench and attempted to disconnect the battery the props spooled up and inflicted injury on him. I have no idea how that could even happen and never heard of anything like it before. A pre-arm mode switch isn't going to stop that because the transmitter was switched off. I think the OP is effectively asking about a power isolation switch between the LiPo and the XT60 pigtail on the quad, but anything that would be good enough to handle the potential current draw from the LiPo is going to be too be way too bulky for a quad so I don't really have an answer to the problem.

What I wouldn't mind seeing is a remote power cutoff that allows you to switch off power to the ESCs and VTX from your radio while leaving FC and RX power on. That would be pretty cool.

If you're talking about switchable LiPo voltage to the ESCs then it would require the use of some hefty FETs and gate drivers on the FC (or the PDB). But those would also be controlled by software so there would still the potential for something to go wrong and for them to switch on when they should be off. Nice idea, but it would just add extra complexity (and an additional failure point on the FC/PDB) for no real gain or benefit, IMO.

VTX pit mode already exist.

Yea and I use the low_vtxpower_on_disarm (sp?) cli as well but my thought was a single remotely controlled switch that shut power off to all the major components leaving only what's needed to power it back on remotely.
