If my GPS is to be believed, I got out to about 700M...prolly coulda-shoulda gone further. I think I coasted a few miles over about 8-9 min of flight time cruising around as gently as I could on a pair of 2000 mAh 3S batteries. Not all that impressive, but exhilarating just the same. I'm flying with an R9 mini transmitter module on my X-lite...wondering how far 100 mW of 915 MHz joy will take me? It's oddly exciting isn't it?? lol. • Posts: 761 Threads: 66 Likes Received: 352 in 254 posts Likes Given: 490 Joined: May 2019 Reputation: 12 It is. Scary even especially when you can't hear it. How far? More than your video will and how game you are until you have done a few Only way to really know is a fail safe and a nice long walk. Thank goodness for GPS rescue. The excitement is real and slightly addictive. Wondering if anyone else is running at 3S? I've seen a discussion on RCgroups about the virtues of 3s vs. 4S, but I'm not sure what to make of it now. Thinking of buying a 5000ish mAh battery, but wondering which one and which voltage to choose for p ure distance/flight time. You asked about 100mw's range. I have had mine out to about a kilometer of 100mw (fixed) and it worked perfectly. While the RSSI dropped a little, but never anything that would raise an alarm. I would venture, 2km would be about the limit if in an RFI free place at 100mw but that is totally speculation based on a few anecdotal experiences. 500mw (fixed) was my favorite before Flex came about. I remember flying out to about 600m on 10mw once before it failsafed, not sure if that means anything. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Addicted :) Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 The only way to find out how far you can get on 100mW is give it a try. Keep an eye on your RSSI and do little increases at a time. Try to do it in a controlled area so if you do failsafe recovery will be easier. I got 1 mile out on 25mW on my Spektrum DX8 (2.4ghz)before going all in on Crossfire. So, I'm only guessing but 2-3 miles might be doable in a low interference environment. But with the R9 system it's an unknown for me. I would listen to Kaity, she is the mileage leader with the R9 system. Made it back in once piece, but took a hard landing and smoked a motor For some reason my goggle DVR just quit working a few days ago, tried reformatting the SD, but I think it might be the button. I'll try to post some HD video if I can learn how to clean it up a bit. Good times. You are doing great pushing more and more! We need some videos though your flights sound nail biting. Your in So Cal too? Yea winds here can really kick up after the morning hours. I use this app "UAV Forecast" and it gives decent readings for wind, precipitation, satellites, etc. Whats nice is it gives you hourly forecast as well as wind at different altitudes. Ordered some more motors, but it's gonna be a while. I disassembled my smokey motor today and two of the poles/windings were black..a sharp rock knocked a SMT bit (resistor?) off my ESC too. Not sure if this caused the motor to cook or if it was independent, but I'll be swapping out both as soon as I can. Might just have to sub in the R9 receiver into my Japalura and keep the medium-range fun going @Ronan I'm up in Prunedale (Salinas/Monterey Bay area), but I grew up down south in Norwalk. I'll push for 1 km but man this is like the little drone that could. But his egging us on is thoroughly entertaining so let's keep going at it LOL.) Oh man that's a beautiful area!! I am so jealous. But I'm also sory about the motor. Not taking a jab here but I always think to myself that if my drone goes down doing long range, it better be down range not like 2 feet away LOL. Looking forward to more of your adventures! I mean ... I will beat you at this!!
