Hi, 2 weeks ago I got my Acrobee Pro and had some binding problems and when this has been solved, it did not show a giro in Betaflight. After some complaining Newbee sent me a new board. Pulled the old one out, installed the new one. Got it all nicely together under a magnifying glass . . . Binding was done in a heart beat. Motors started humming up and it was flyable. Very quirky though. OK, I have to change some settings and expo in Betaflight, right? Connected it to the Mac, opened Betaflight and . . . nothing. No lights on the drone. Hhmm, bad cable? Took 2 different ones, changed computer to get to a different USB port. NOTHING !! Looks like the port on the Acrobee is just dead. Does anybody have a clue what that could be wrong or has a similar experience? • Posts: 1,845 Threads: 203 Likes Received: 346 in 264 posts Likes Given: 306 Joined: May 2020 Reputation: 11 31-Dec-2020, 12:31 AM (This post was last modified: 31-Dec-2020, 12:37 AM by Rob3ddd.) Check your micro usb plug or try another quad you know that works with that micro usb plug. If your FC powers up it doesn’t always mean the data pins are connecting inside micro usb. USB plug connectors are sometimes power only and some are power and data. Have you had anything connected to betaflight before? • Posts: 15 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 0 (31-Dec-2020, 12:31 AM)Rob3ddd Wrote: Check your micro usb plug or try another quad you know that works with that micro usb plug. Have you had anything connected to betaflight before? The FC does not even power up. No lights. Plugged in the old, bad FC and the lights came right up. Really weird. I suspect I got again an bad board? What are the odds that this happens twice in a row . . . • Posts: 21,414 Threads: 595 Likes Received: 9,037 in 6,688 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 796 If you hold down the boot button on the FC and then plug in the USB cable does it get recognised as a device that is in DFU mode? • Posts: 15 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 0 (31-Dec-2020, 12:48 AM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: If you hold down the boot button on the FC and then plug in the USB cable does it get recognised as a device that is in DFU mode? Mac. Any other FC works there. Plugged it also into my MacBook and the PC from my wife. Still nothing. • Posts: 21,414 Threads: 595 Likes Received: 9,037 in 6,688 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 796 If you plug a LiPo into the quad first and then plug in a USB cable, do you then see any response from the FC? • Posts: 15 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 0 (31-Dec-2020, 01:41 AM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: If you plug a LiPo into the quad first and then plug in a USB cable, do you then see any response from the FC? Hhmm, have to try this. You think it could just be the power lines from the USB and the 2 data lines could work? • Posts: 21,414 Threads: 595 Likes Received: 9,037 in 6,688 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 796 (31-Dec-2020, 03:06 AM)Newbeeskip Wrote: Hhmm, have to try this. I'm just throwing some ideas around to see if we can get anything to work at all before completely writing off the FC as a dud. • Posts: 15 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 0 (31-Dec-2020, 03:10 AM)SnowLeopardFPV Wrote: It's possible. Funny thing is, that it flies and all works but no usb connection. • Posts: 21,414 Threads: 595 Likes Received: 9,037 in 6,688 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 796 (31-Dec-2020, 03:42 AM)Newbeeskip Wrote: Thanks for all your input. It's quite possible that the USB socket just isn't soldered onto the FC board properly and has one or more dodgy solder connections on it. Maybe worth getting a magnifying glass out and having a look for any dry or cracked joints on the USB socket pins where they're soldered to the board. • Posts: 15 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 0 31-Dec-2020, 04:37 AM (This post was last modified: 31-Dec-2020, 04:39 AM by Newbeeskip.) Wow, just could steal myself away into my office to try what you suggested. . . . It worked !! When I have it powered up with the battery, then I get usb connection to Betaflight.? Great idea. Tried to look up the solder joints, but without taking the board out, it is hard to see. Besides the 5 tiny wires there are 2 golden feet/anchors which are soldered solid, but there are tiny solder joints from the metal case of the usb to the board, which look suspicious and are tough to get to. Looks like grounding from the outer metal part of the usb to the board. Will take the board out tomorrow and have a closer look. Problem is, shall I try to re-solder and possibly ruin something, or complain and send it back? • Posts: 359 Threads: 14 Likes Received: 163 in 126 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Jul 2020 Reputation: 12 Send it back if you can every glitchy board ive had never lasted long. Some manufacturers have got to be getting so used to returns by now they should automatically be dispatching a replacement at time of purchase. Constant returns might help end this. You've found the issue and a workaround but that's not acceptable for something you paid money for. NewBeeDrone have to realise they have QC issues with some of their products that they need to get in order, and the only way that will happen is by you continually badgering them until they end up giving you a fully working product that you don't have to mess around with trying to fix yourself. • |
