It has buildings, trees, streets, covered structures to fly under, etc. I am guessing it would be easy enough for a new-new person as long as they started over the buildings, while having elements of someone who is gaining more and more skills like myself, and even elements that might be interesting to someone who wants to sharpen racing skills. Anyway if you have liftoff and haven't loaded it in a while it might be worth checking out. It's kind of perfect for my 30-90 minutes a day practice that I try to get in. (Sorry if this is the wrong category to put this thread in, I thought about off-topic but then I figured while it's computer renditions of quads/multirotors it's still quads...) carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 195 Threads: 8 Likes Received: 86 in 54 posts Likes Given: 79 Joined: Aug 2016 Reputation: 6 Checked on youtube and looks great, will try it tonight. Seems to be much bigger than the other maps which is one of the grudges I have with liftoff so I'm looking forward to try this one. It's almost deceptive, if you fly high it looks like a bunch of boring rooftops but if you fly low there are so many different elements to fly through and around. @Oscar: lol, agreed... although for me it's the DRL logo in the sandbox. I've managed to learn tricks that I see in videos. The reverse powerloop is still easier than a regular power loop though so I'll keep working on it. @Xtopher: I may be race ready (as in I can finish 3 laps) within the next month. I still have some work to do on right hand turns but after that I'd join you guys. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 5,323 Threads: 674 Likes Received: 3,159 in 1,747 posts Likes Given: 2,032 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 @Carl, @Chirs, Let's do it maybe one weekend? Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Definitely... I gave the course a go and realized I haven't run a course in a little while. This one is kind of fun but I'll need practice otherwise I'll slow you guys wayyyy down. For example, my "learning" rounds... my first go of it was DNF on lap 2... not sure what my lap one time is and it doesn't count anyway because I was really just looking around for where to go. Second go was 7:38 with decreasing la ptimes of 2:47, 2:31, and 2:21 respectively (of course decreasing because I was starting to warm up and get a feel for the course)... based on my feel for the course I am thinking someone who is fast could shave a minute off my fastest time so I'd be happy to get down below the 2 minute range. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 follow up: I can get under 2 but cant finish a race even in god mode with lap times under 2 min yet... so I might be able to stick to that week afterall. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 finally getting lap times under 2 min... I am in for maybe this weekend if you guys want? I know we're an international bunch so probably something that works for Europe and USA would be best? If we have anyone down in Australia that would like to join then someone is gonna have to stay up late :p carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 11-Aug-2017, 10:09 AM (This post was last modified: 11-Aug-2017, 12:28 PM by Carl.Vegas.) Decided to dig up an old thread... I've come a long way my practice. These days I am trying to break under 4 minutes on this map! Of course I am just now getting to a point where I use full throttle at points on the course. And I could probably shave some time off just getting rid of the gopro now that I look at the snapshot lol Edit (5am EDT): nah... the gopro wouldn't have been enough... I needed to go faster... Now here is a time that I can be proud of: Now to get under 1 min per lap... that's the next goal and may require removal of the gopro/adjustments on the virtual workbench. Edit #2 (7am EDT): got rid of gopro and put on different props and raced most of the course at full throttle... sub-1-minute laps! wow racing might be more fun than I thought! carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 1,590 Threads: 89 Likes Received: 1,283 in 768 posts Likes Given: 1,274 Joined: Jan 2017 Reputation: 31 Here we go: made a video out of the course including outtakes at the end. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 Posts: 2,416 Threads: 51 Likes Received: 1,861 in 1,175 posts Likes Given: 3,315 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 74 Awesome! I can't begin to describe the damage and costs that would have gone into it. I still have at least a couple more weeks of intensive simulator training before I get back in the air. I have another trip coming up at the end of the month and it'd be great if I could do some flying on that trip, but we shall see. It'll all be up to timing really. carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • Posts: 1,504 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 944 in 654 posts Likes Given: 2,142 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 24 Nice one man, I am hoping to get at least 1 sim running on my laptop, hopefully all I have to do is install win 7 service packs which I downloaded at my buds place last night, and I will get in to some virtual air... A bit of warning on performance... While liftoff probably has the least spectacular graphics for some reason it seems to be the most resource thirsty out of the sims I've used. FPV Freerider and DRL both were a little smoother on my laptop. Of course if resources aren't the problem at all then I stand by what I've said about liftoff being the most realistic feel physics wise carl.vegas Current Quads: Operational: Diatone GT2 200 In need of repair: Bumble Bee, tehStein, Slightly modified Vortex 250 • |
