New FrSky F.PORT 2.0 Protocol for ACCESS Receivers
#1
This new version of the F.PORT protocol is only supported on ACCESS capable receivers. Details are on FrSky's main website at the following link and I have copied/pastes the same information below.

https://www.frsky-rc.com/f-port-2-0

FrSky Wrote:Introduction

The F.Port 2.0 protocol is the upgraded protocol from 1.0 version which integrates SBUS and S.Port into one line. This new protocol enables one Host device to communicate on one line with several Slave accessories. All connected devices by ACCESS receiver (Host) can be configured wirelessly to the ACCESS radio base on this protocol.

Integration Of SBUS & S.PORT

To complete the duplex data transmission between devices, the Signal via SBUS works separately unlike the configuration command & telemetry data interaction via Smart Port base on two different protocols.

F.Port now allows you to connect only one standard servo cable with the integration of SBUS signals and S.Port telemetry through a single connection. This opens up the possibility of seamlessly pairing a single receiver on F.Port protocol with multiple telemetry devices as well as simplifying one’s setup.

Wireless Configuration & Firmware Upgrade

Usage without Flight Controller
Bound to an ACCESS protocol radio, the Archer receivers can be updated over the air and configured by a specific LUA script without a cable connection. With the addition of F.Port 2.0 protocol, this system supports multiple devices like sensors, servos, video transmitter, ESC, and other accessories to be daisy-chained together to be controlled by the receiver (Host) via F.Port.

Usage includes Flight Controller
Standard models equipped with Flight Controllers usually use the Flight Controller as a hub to connect components like motors, video transmitter, ESC, and other accessories. With the new F.Port 2.0 protocol, the flight controller can host its’ own line of accessory (Slave), in addition, the flight controller (Slave) can also be controlled by the (Host) receiver.

Usage with FreeLink App
The ACCESS radio that comes equipped with a PARA module, pairing the F.Port 2.0 protocol can enable the FreeLink App to configure and flash the firmware for any F.Port 2.0 capable devices amongst the product line.

FAQ

Q: What ACCESS receivers will be F.Port 2.0 capable?
Host receiver must be an F.Port 2.0 capable ACCESS receiver. The Archer series and upcoming other new series receivers (TD, etc.) will apply this protocol.

Q: What changes from 1.0 to 2.0 version?
The 1.0 version initially realized and simplified the F.Port bus transmission with integrated SBUS and S.Port from one Receiver to another device. The upgraded 2.0 can enable more devices to form into a chain to connect by the unique host device, all the connected devices can be upgraded and configured on the ACCESS radio over the air.

Looks like you have to have F. Port 2.0 compatible components if you want to daisy chain everything off the receiver. Seems to be geared towards planes, wings and maybe quad with a lot of sensor.

Locking everyone in to their ecosystem.

Yep, or pushing everyone further away from buying their products. One of the two.

I can see them adding more wings and planes, but I don't think that sector is growing as fast as FPV.

I am surely not buying anymore stuff. Consider that Crossfire has it dialed in with the size of their receiver, the ease of use, the incredible radio link and even the size of their antenna. What reason do you have to deal with Frsky anymore?

Although they change their strategy, their products are awesome !!!. In terms of build quality, it is very durable. Don't be unfair to FrSky.

No one is saying that they don't make a quality product. What if they told you that today all your receivers will work. But tomorrow, you have to upgrade and a lot of your old receivers will not work. That is basically what they did. So this left a bitter taste in many of us who had a lot of their products. They swears that they will continue to support keep the old stuff. But slowly they are removing all old firmwares, virtually forcing people to upgrade because the old firmware is not available anymore.

It is nice they are continuously innovating. But they bit the hands that fed them. So they can go find new people to feed them. With this community being so small, most of the big hitters in the field has the same sentiment as me. And the wave is already shifting away from Frsky products.

I don't think SnowLeopard or voodoo are being unfair. In fact, I don't think I have ever heard anyone on this forum say FrSky products are poor or inferior quality. It is only this "change of strategy" that has been criticized. And you can tell how much confusion the strategy has caused just by reading all of the support questions on this forum that voodoo and SnowLeopard (and others) have patiently addressed. If anyone has been "unfair", it appears to me that it is FrSky being unfair to it's once-faithful user base! (My 2 cents.)

Edit: Ah, sorry voodoo - didn't see your post, I was writing mine... Wink

No problem sloscotty.

@johnwhip, if you read my impression of the Radiomaster, I said that my Frsky Horus has a higher built quality.

You misunderstood me a lot. What I meant by saying unfair is that this is just a strategy whether you like it or not. This is the path they follow. It is your choice to follow them or not,but they make good and quality products, but people overcritisize FrSky which is not fair for me.In my opinion, they don't deserve to be critisized this much.Think it like a Apple products. I know both of yours reviews.Love you all. I hope you understand what I mean.
