Nano tx to micro tx casing(question)
#1
Hello everyone, I’ve been wanting to get into drones for a while and finally had the money to buy a set up, problem is I’m new at this and even doing a lot of research I’m having difficulties buying the right stuff, I have a t motor ft5 and tx16s radio, I want long range so I bought the crossfire nano tx starter set thinking it would fit on my radio, I just ordered the crossfire micro tx conversion kit, is that all I need to be able to connect it to my tx16s? Every time I think I’m done buying stuff for my drone, I then need something else Confused

Yes, it can be an investment purchasing the nits and pieces to get running with a new hobby.

And yes the Crossfire micro tx conversion is all you need to transfer the crossfire nano tx internals to the micro tx size casing.

I lost count of the number of times that I had to go back and re-order yet more stuff that I needed while doing my first build because I realised I'd missed yet something else off the list of things I needed. That was made worse by the fact that a lot of my stuff was coming from China, so every new order delayed the build by another 3-4 weeks while waiting for the stuff to get delivered. Over time you will start to build up what you need along with excess components, hardware, and other tools that you need for building, troubleshooting, and repairs. It just takes a bit of time and some patience.

Maybe if you list all of the individual things and related tools that you already have (or have ordered) we can take a look and see if there is anything missing.

Here’s my list of parts
1.Radio tx16s
2.Crossfire nano tx starter set
3.Crossfire micro tx conversion kit(just ordered last night)
4.CNHL BLACK SERIES 1500mAh 14.8V 4S 100C Lipo Battery
5.T-Motor FT5 5" 4S FPV Freestyle RTF w/ Caddx Ratel FPV Camera- PNP
6.Realacc RHCP Pogoda Antenna + TFP-Mini Triple Feed Patch Dia. 45mm Antenna 5.8G 5dBi 8dBi Omni Directional Omni FPV Antenna SMA/RP-SMA For FPV RC Drone Black+Black SMA Male
7.charger, forgot the brand I just know it works.
8.I have like 5” 12 propellers.

I don’t think I can even use the realacc antenna, right? I’m not sure on my connection type. But the realacc I got is sma and i don’t think my drone has any connection for it.

For Related tools, I got the t12 sottering iron, and screwdriver with all different tips for disassembling my drone.

I think that’s all I got, I haven’t gotten my goggles cause I’m not sure which ones to get yet, I wouldn’t mind spending a bit more to get clearer view. I wanted to get the skyzones but I think they’re sold out everywhere.

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it, I didn’t want to be looking for a drone store just to ask them what i need.

That list looks fine to get you in the air. Just be aware that you're going to crash and so will likely break things which means you will have to start getting into repairs at some point and will need some specific tools for that. I guess you can cross that bridge when you come to it. It just means that if you don't already have any tools or spare parts on hand you will just have to remain grounded until you can order some.

Lol yeah I will most then likely crash, what are some parts you recommend to have as extra? I prolly have all the tools needed to take the drone apart and all.

Some spare arms for starters. The T-Motor FT5 frame seems to have a weak point on the end of the arm where it joins the motor mount...

Things like spare frame standoffs, a selection of M2 & M3 screws of varying lengths, and spare prop nuts will all come in handy.

I put a list of a lot of sundries needed when building and repairing quads in the following post a few years back...

I'm working on my first build as we speak. What did I end up needing, or still need?

M2 hardware. I ended up getting the 280pc M2 steel hardware kit. I'll likely never need it all, but nice to have.

Heat Shrink. Same thing, I got the 150pc box set, BUT it doesn't have small enough for motor wires. The colors are black and red...then I realized I needed CLEAR heat shrink for things like my R-XSR receiver.

Spare silicone wire, in assorted AWG and colors. Yep, I need to extend my motor wires, close, but..nope.

Solder. Not the big fat hardware store kind, the thinner the better, I think mine is .5mm. I use 60/40 leaded flux core, but I hear the 63/37 is "better", I haven't tried it.

Connectors. XT-30, assorted JST pigtails, ufl antenna extension for my VTX antenna. I needed a SMA angle adapter for my goggles.

Capacitors. My Hifionrc F7 came with one, 470uf 35v but I hear Panasonic is the best brand. At less than 2 bucks each? Sure. Many recommend 1000uf, but for me, 470uf is fine.

Beeper or lost model finder. Some are a beeper only, the 'finders' have a built in battery for if the main battery is disconnected.

I THINK I have, or will soon have, -everything- I need, but... Murphy's Law? I'll find out soon!

Hope that helps Wink

Awesome, I’ll make a new list of things I should buy, good thing I’m into diy so I have a few of the things mentioned already.

I should be getting the conversion kit in a few days, I hope is easy to transfer everything to the micro box.

I think I’m gonna have to give up on this hobby, i transferred everything to my new micro box, and there’s a part that is not attachable on the box anywhere, idk if I’m supposed to disconnect it or what, there’s no instructions anywhere, so I left the part hanging, and when I plug the micro box to the pins on the controller, the crossfire never turns on, so that’s one fail, then I tried flashing my controller with new firmware and nothing works for me like it does on the YouTube tutorials. I’m in San Diego and searched for drone stores or anyone local that can help me and had no luck.
I don’t even know at what stage my controller is now, doesn’t even act the same anymore.

Let's try and sort out the Micro TX issue first, We'll worry about any possible issues with your TX16S later. One thing at a time.

Can you please post some photos of your Crossfire Micro TX and show us some photos of what you've done. We will need to see the "hanging" part so you will need to open up the Micro TX casing again.  If need be I will open up my own Micro TX so we can work out where that part is supposed to attach to inside the case.

I removed the part, and sottered some part that came with the micro box, I sottered it cause it was kind of loose, when I sottered it and connected everything back, the crossfire actually turned on while attached on my controller, before the only thing that would give it power was when the crossfire was connected to usb. I’ll be taking it apart later today to take some pics to show you all.

First pic shows the part I sottered, second pic shows the part I removed, I just put it near where it was connected but is not connected anymore and the crossfire still turns on when plugged on my controller, I guess that’s just the connection for the other type of controllers.
The other pics is just so you see my controllers connection and at what stage my crossfire is now. Is blinking yellow. Today I’ll do a search to see what I need to do next, what worries me is my controller missing firmware or stuff like that.

You don't need that extra board with the cable attached when using the Crossfire Micro TX V2 housing. It's only needed when using the Nano TX housing. Just unplug and remove that board completely. Don't leave it loose inside the Micro TX housing because it might end up shorting something out.

That yellow LED is actually orange. A pulsing orange LED status means that the module has no link (no binding) with a receiver. If it's already bound to a Crossfire receiver then just power up the quad with that receiver in and the LED on the Crossfire Micro TX module should then turn solid green. If it's not yet bound to a receiver then you need to go through the binding process.

Yeah is what I figured, I just put it next to where it connects in the pic to show where it was plugged but it’s not plugged anymore.

That’s great, I’ll try to bind it soon then. But Im a bit confused about my controller, when I turn it on the screen has a blue background, I see everyone else’s is red. I’ll take a pic of this soon too.

It sounds like you just have the blue theme configured instead of the red one. Maybe you inadvertently changed the theme colour, or maybe that is the default theme that the TX16S now comes configured with from the factory.
