That being said, how do I charge this? Just through the balance lead? Only one of the four sets on wire on it that hook up to my charger. One to the plugs fits the radio of course. Am I missing something? Thanks. Deal Here's the Deal

Anyway, you will need to make yourself an adapter to match one of the 3 leads to charge from, as most chargers won't charge from the balance lead. • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 15-Jun-2019, 04:26 PM (This post was last modified: 15-Jun-2019, 04:29 PM by voodoo614.) yes, just through the balance lead. there is so many leads to be compatible to other devices. just plug in what fits to the radio. it should be the JST-XH connector. Your radio can charge the lipo through the balance connector. • Posts: 863 Threads: 43 Likes Received: 286 in 202 posts Likes Given: 12 Joined: Nov 2018 Reputation: 5 voodoo, you meant my charger will charge the battery through the balance connector, right? I thought so, but I always differ to the pros here. Deal Here's the Deal

You should have something like this that came with your radio. the x9d has a charging circuit. https://www.amazon.com/d/Rc-Radio-System...B014IYQU4I Or if you want to charge the lipo outside, you have to do what Sugs say. get adapter for one of the plug to XT60. • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 if you don't have one, here is a link for a cheaper price. just shipping will be longer. https://www.horusrc.com/en/frsky-taranis...eu-au.html • Posts: 863 Threads: 43 Likes Received: 286 in 202 posts Likes Given: 12 Joined: Nov 2018 Reputation: 5 Guess I'll need an adapter. The whole point was to be able to charge with my charger. There is the plug that connects to my radio (two wires), there is a balance plug (four wires), and two more sets of plugs each with two wires. No clue which one to adapt to/from. Deal Here's the Deal

I wish the description would have been more clear for this novice. Perhaps mentioning the possible need for an adapter. Oh well. Another learning experience. Deal Here's the Deal

Any of the other three connectors with 2 wires will be your battery lead. You can choose whichever battery lead you want. Whichever one you choose, you will need an adapter to go from that lead to an XT60 to charge. For example, one of your connector is a servo connector. So you will need a servo connector to XT60 adapter. These are uncommon, unless you make one yourself with parts you have. Otherwise, using the JST to XT60 are more common adapters. 3S JST-XH to XT60 isn't so common either. Again, most of us already have these connections laying around, you would just make one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074FQ9WTT/ref...bDb82K30GT • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 I prefer to charge through my radio, because I don't need to take the lipo out all the time. This is one advantage the X9D has over the Q7X. • Posts: 863 Threads: 43 Likes Received: 286 in 202 posts Likes Given: 12 Joined: Nov 2018 Reputation: 5 I ordered an adapter from Amazon. One day shipping so it'll be here tomorrow. The way my luck goes, if I left it in the radio and just plugged it in, the battery would catch fire and destroy my radio too, hehe. Plus it takes forever to plug in and charge. Also no outlet in the truck if i need to field charge for some reason. Does the lipo charge faster plugged into the wall than the stock battery does? If you are asking whether the new lipo charges faster than the stock battery, then the answer is no. The current (amp) charge rate should be the same. Since your new lipo is a larger capacity, it will take longer. But your battery also last longer. If I were to buy a replacement battery pack for the Taranis, I would get a 2S li-ion pack instead of 3S lipo. One reason, li-ion has denser capacity, therefore I can get a very large capacity in a smaller size. Also, one less cell means more space for capacity. Second reason, 2S is cheaper than 3S. And li-ion is also cheaper. Not a big difference in price though. Third reason (not too much of a concern), li-ion is a little more stable when it comes to high voltage storage and lower voltage drain. Meaning you can drain li-ion lower without worry of damage. It might be a misconception, but I feel safer with li-ion fully charge sitting around compared to my lipo fully charge sitting around. Lastly, according to Oscar, flashing with 3S have a higher chance for frying the receiver. I don't really agree, because the radio should have regulated 5V voltage to the S. Port. |
