Kopis vTX debate
#1
Hi All,

I just got the Kopis after reading all the great reviews.  On plugging in the 4th pack, the vTX stopped working. I was so thrilled to be able to adjust PIDs and Tx power via my controller, then nothing . . . . - ugh.  I noticed when I was getting it configured in betaflight (with battery plugged in) the vTX was getting hot - 133 F.  Worked great for 3 flights - nice and slow, no crashes or even rough landings.  There is power getting to the vTx from the FC, but no status light or anything and I don't want to dig any further so I can return it.

This is the first "professionally" built quad I've ever bought.  I've been building my own for a couple years now.  When I saw the Kopis, I couldn't deny the value and bit the bullet.  So now the debate - do I return the whole thing and get a new unit?  Do I buy a new atlatl vTX and risk that one failing too?  Try to rig a different one in there?  Has anyone else had this issue?  Or other quality control issues with Holybro stuff?

I appreciate any input!  Also, many thanks to Oscar - your site has been so helpful in learning this hobby!!

Sounds like a recent purchase. I would just contact the vendor and get a replacement VTX. They do get super hot. That's why you always plug in antenna on the bench.

If you like it, no point returning everything.

I think vtx and esc are tied as components that fail the most. Holybro makes pretty a good product, component failure is just the nature of this hobby. Just stick with it and in a few months it won't be as much of a problem as you'll have 2 of everything haha

Only 2 of everything. I have 4-5 of everything. I can probably build a couple more with just random parts laying around. It is a disease.

It's pretty normal VTX gets hot, in fact 133 F is not consider "hot" yet Smile VTX can get even hotter than that and still work fine.
Like Voodoo said, make sure you attach the antenna while power on and you should be fine.

Thanks guys. I had to return the whole thing due to return policy. I did like it and may have them send a new one while I start my next build. I've only dabbled with cc3d and apm (minis), mostly all in librepilot and missionplanner. Incredible the way this hobby advances. Now that I've played with the more advanced features, I'm going to have a hard time going back to the basic ones (but I too can build a couple complete quads out of all the parts I have -- and probably should till I get better flyingSmile. First I got bitten by the building bug, now I can feel the flying-bug getting stronger! Thanks for the input! I'm glad I found your forum!

Cheers
