Last night the power was out again, and while sitting in the dark thinking about my new build, I realised I have some tools and materials that might actually work for soft mounting my motors. So this morning out comes my desktop vinyl cutter and some leftover stamp-material (1mm Silicone pad) I had left over from another project. I decided to cut a variety, giving me some options. (also made some for my 1806's while I was at it) The result... They came out pretty nice. The silicone is also the perfect consistency. Not too hard...not too squishy. These were the 2 mounting options that came to mind...#1 should be more absorbent than #2, but does it really matter? Opinions, please. If my post helped you...hit the RATE button. I don't feel the difference would be massive, since your screws will be touching the holes in the mount anyway... For me the key to get good soft mounting was not to over-tighten the screws...
But really nice cutting looking forward to your result! • Posts: 88 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 97 in 44 posts Likes Given: 66 Joined: Jun 2016 Reputation: 2 option 1 makes more sense to me but I think its unnecessary, I noticed an improvement just from putting some electrical tape between the motors and carbon so option 2 should be good • Posts: 164 Threads: 16 Likes Received: 50 in 41 posts Likes Given: 48 Joined: Jan 2018 Reputation: 5 (30-Mar-2018, 07:46 PM)ZERONEST Wrote: option 1 makes more sense to me but I think its unnecessary, I noticed an improvement just from putting some electrical tape between the motors and carbon so option 2 should be good Agree. Option 1 makes sense, but feels a bit extreme. I’m going with Options 2 for starters. Maybe I try Option 1 at some stage just to compare blackbox results. Should be an interesting experiment. Made a mental note not to over tighten. Will be using blue threadlock to make sure the screws are secure. I have never needed to soft mount any of my motors. • Posts: 164 Threads: 16 Likes Received: 50 in 41 posts Likes Given: 48 Joined: Jan 2018 Reputation: 5 Well, its not flying at all, yet. Just thought, while I’m busy I might just as well get on the hype train and see what all the fuss is about. I decided to take a “blackbox” approach and actually compare the different mounting methods. Now I just need to finish building it first. (I could not find one in SA, and that's what you get for buying off a product image on Amazon.) I was so ticked off when I realised my mistake I even wrote Chris an email to apologise. Pretty good quality non the less. Required some sanding which was OK as I was rounding and sealing the edges anyway. Still sucks that it is not a proper Armattan though. No, all 4 grommets are yellow. I just screwed on a black nylon nut to keep the board down while working on it. I am WAY too OCD to allow for a single black grommet. Turns out I used a darn passive buzzer (got my datasheets mixed up). I have a few more in my stash, but I'm too lazy to test for an active one right now.
