How useful do you find receiver telemetry
#1
In my limited time with FPV I have found all of the flight info I need (at least so far) I can get through OSD in my goggles.

I'm curious as to what telemetry has to offer that I may be missing. I've been using the FRSKY XM+ receivers which don't have telemetry. It seems like I have all the info I need.

Just curious

It can be handy to have your radio shout at you or buzz when your battery or RSSI runs low.

I set it up on my quads when I can, but I have to admit that I barely use it. As you say, I can get everything I need from the OSD. It's probably designed more for wings, or other situations where you don't have a flight controller/OSD.

The ground is for dead people.

If you have OSD, you don't miss something so important, but it would be better to use it if your receiver support telemetry.

I like to have all of my OSD elements around the side and bottom of my screen so it doesn't impair my view. The only thing I have in the middle are the warnings which only appear when a warning is activated. What this means is that unless I'm consciously monitoring some of the OSD elements for a specific reason (i.e. to check current draw etc.), when I'm really focused on flying I find that I don't always look at the OSD elements as often as I maybe should because I'm so focusing on the centre of the screen (I guess you could call it tunnel vision Big Grin). So I use telemetry data to my transmitter to call out the voltage level if it drops below 14V (for a 4S LiPo), and also to call out when my Crossfire Link Quality (LQ) value drops below a certain threshold.

If you have GPS fitted, telemetry data back your transmitter is also useful because whereas you might lose video signal in your goggles (and thus lose any onscreen GPS co-ordinates), it means you can log the GPS co-ordinates on your transmitter right up to the point of a crash even if you lost video, and that log gives you a much better chance of locating your downed quad. Obviously if you don't run GPS then this is a non-issue.

That's what I was thinking. Just wanted other's opinions.

Thanks!
