Once the Goprolab firmware is on your camera go into the gopro app and set it to search for new camera. While the app is searching for a new camera scan this QR  code below.

Once the camera recognizes the QR code, tap the mode button on the hero 8 three times, and that should pair your hero 8 with the gopro app on your phone.
Scan the QR Code directly off this thread/computer screen.

I just tried this on my gopro Hero 7 that has a rear screen that doesnt work and it paired.

Good luck!
Please let me know if it worked.

I just created an account here to say thank you. I have a gopro hero 9 naked and this trick work 100%. Good fly guys!

First of all... thank you very much!

I did indeed had big trouble getting it to work with my Hero7... the App got an update (or something else) so it listed my Hero7 which was already paired to it probably a year ago... as "RePair"...

What worked for me (and I am inserting here all I did though I actually think only the last thing was relevant probably relevant):

- deleted the Hero7 out of my app
- deleted the Hero8 out of my app (no more cams listed)
- pointed the Hero7 at my MacBook Screen (QR code fullscreen, "preview" makes the rest of the screen black)
- did press mode button three times and kept on trying in the iPhone app to press the "+GoPro"-Icon... waited for the "Searching" to end and the page appear which lets me select a cam (it basically says = failed, lets troubleshoot so tell me what cam you want to connect)
- went back in the app and hit that "+GoPro"-Icon again...
- repeat..

All this time I was pointing my quad (ChineWhoop) with my DIY Naked Hero7 at the screen... and well... it worked I think... third / fourth time... did not disconnect the battery or anything... (well... I did try after all 20 times I guess lol, with "rebooting" and so on)

Hope this helps!

Thanks again!

The way to get this to work is to:

- ensure your phone bluetooth is turned on (it is a bit of a misconception that a Gopro connects via wifi, it does but only when streaming video to your phone, under normal circumstances it uses bluetooth for configuration/settings)

- ensure you have Gopro Labs working on the Gopro 8 by testing a few test QR codes

- while doing the previous step, estimate the optimal distance from the screen when the Gopro recognizes QR codes (this is important because the bluetooth/wifi binding QR code does not give any confirmation that it has recognized the QR code)

- start the Gopro Quik app on your phone and be prepared to click/tap on the search/add/connect to a Gopro icon

- keep the camera pointed towards the bluetooth/wifi binding QR code at the optimal distance it recognizes QR codes (keep it pointed till the next step)

- press the Mode button 3 times

- tap on the search/add/connect to a Gopro icon on the Gopro Quik app on your phone

This should connect the Gopro to your phone.

You may have to do this a few times to get the sequence right. For each attempt I recommend switching off the Gopro and pulling out the battery and starting all over again.

I had to redo the QR code on mine via the Gopro Labs app since the raw text was simply: !PA

Attached is the version that worked for me.

Thank you so much, it worked perfectly.. You saved my GoPro 8.
So I have been able to reconnect my goPro on my new iPhone (back screen dead on GoPro 8).
Thank you, thank you, thank you
