I'm aware of Goprolab firmware, however I really wish I could control via Wifi and My phone so I can download files from my SD card as well. So without a working screen you are unfortunately out of luck. I think your only option is probably to try and get another screen even if it is broken/cracked, as long as it still works. Then you will be able to pair your phone with the GoPro. Once the Goprolab firmware is on your camera go into the gopro app and set it to search for new camera. While the app is searching for a new camera scan this QR code below. Once the camera recognizes the QR code, tap the mode button on the hero 8 three times, and that should pair your hero 8 with the gopro app on your phone. Scan the QR Code directly off this thread/computer screen. I just tried this on my gopro Hero 7 that has a rear screen that doesnt work and it paired. Good luck! Please let me know if it worked. I've got almost the exact problem. I've installed the Goprolabs update on my hero 8 and confirmed the QR code reading works by changing some settings. I can't get it to read this code unfortunately. Where did you find it? I didn't find any other info about this elsewhere... • Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 30-Apr-2021, 08:50 AM (This post was last modified: 30-Apr-2021, 09:41 PM by kafie1980.) This worked like a charm on a Gopro 8 I bought in an online auction with a broken screen ( for US$ 80 ) and I was able to pair it with the Gopro Quik app on my iPhone. The way to get this to work is to: - ensure your phone bluetooth is turned on (it is a bit of a misconception that a Gopro connects via wifi, it does but only when streaming video to your phone, under normal circumstances it uses bluetooth for configuration/settings) - ensure you have Gopro Labs working on the Gopro 8 by testing a few test QR codes - while doing the previous step, estimate the optimal distance from the screen when the Gopro recognizes QR codes (this is important because the bluetooth/wifi binding QR code does not give any confirmation that it has recognized the QR code) - start the Gopro Quik app on your phone and be prepared to click/tap on the search/add/connect to a Gopro icon - keep the camera pointed towards the bluetooth/wifi binding QR code at the optimal distance it recognizes QR codes (keep it pointed till the next step) - press the Mode button 3 times - tap on the search/add/connect to a Gopro icon on the Gopro Quik app on your phone This should connect the Gopro to your phone. You may have to do this a few times to get the sequence right. For each attempt I recommend switching off the Gopro and pulling out the battery and starting all over again. I had to redo the QR code on mine via the Gopro Labs app since the raw text was simply: !PA Attached is the version that worked for me. This is going to save me soooooo much trouble! I was able to adjust protune settings using QR codes, but I had no way of checking if my exposure was good. This is awesome. Thanks a million! • Posts: 1 Threads: 0 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 1 Joined: Jul 2021 Reputation: 0 (30-Apr-2021, 08:50 AM)kafie1980 Wrote: This worked like a charm on a Gopro 8 I bought in an online auction with a broken screen ( for US$ 80 ) and I was able to pair it with the Gopro Quik app on my iPhone. Thank you very much this description just works fine you really have to find the perfect distance between the gopro and the QR code • Posts: 1 Threads: 0 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Dec 2021 Reputation: 0 (30-Apr-2021, 08:50 AM)kafie1980 Wrote: This worked like a charm on a Gopro 8 I bought in an online auction with a broken screen ( for US$ 80 ) and I was able to pair it with the Gopro Quik app on my iPhone. I am assuming you are having trouble pairing your gopro to the quik app but not 100% sure. When you say you reset your cellphone type of phone? Did it stop working before or after the reset? • Posts: 3 Threads: 0 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 0 07-Apr-2022, 03:49 PM (This post was last modified: 07-Apr-2022, 03:56 PM by marcolomiller.) sorry. iam in a hurry. I have an iphone XR. I did this QR code hack with my two hero8s 4 months ago and it worked fine. On the first ateempt. But i had to factory reset my iphone and i updated the IOS. And reinstall the protune and gopro quick app. The protune works fine , but this hack to conect the camera to quik app is not working anymore. Camera not found , on both. thanks • Posts: 4,550 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,245 in 1,064 posts Likes Given: 430 Joined: Aug 2020 Reputation: 118 No reason I can think off that will stop the barcode scan from preventing the wifi pairing with a phone especially if nothing has changed on the Gopro. One reason can be the wifi module burning out on naked versions that have no antenna wire soldered to the main board. • Posts: 25 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 2 in 1 posts Likes Given: 15 Joined: Jan 2021 Reputation: 0 (07-Apr-2022, 03:49 PM)marcolomiller Wrote: sorry. iam in a hurry. Try going through kafie1980 steps one more time, turn on your screen brightness all the way up to display the QR code. I have issues at times connecting when i try using my phone to display the QR code, i usually have better luck using a computer screen. • Posts: 3 Threads: 0 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 0 Joined: Apr 2022 Reputation: 0 (07-Apr-2022, 03:44 PM)Mpr3ssiv Wrote: It worked for both my hero8 4 months ago , but its is NOT WORKING ANYMORE. I tryed o couple more times and could conect my GEPRC naked8 , but the other naked i have did not conect at all. probably its damaged. but something really od i oberved in a test i did. with the QR code APP and throug the wuick app , the shutter adjustments does not affect my exposure at all. On both my cameras. this is very od. i did a consistent test and nothing. • |
