Hello from Denmark

Hi

Greetings from Denmark  Smile

I've been thinking about going into FPV drone racing for some time now. I've started by purchasing a transmitter (FrSky Taranis Q X7) some time ago. I've been using it with Liftoff and other FPV Drone Simulators games. I think I'm ready for the next step which is purchasing an actual trainer drone and FPV googles. For the drone, I was thinking about EMAX Tinyhawk III. The FPV goggles I'm a bit unsure.

I think I prefer binocular style goggles, but since I have not tried any (including box style) I could be wrong. I don't wear glasses but might in the future as I'm a bit nearsighted. What options to you recommend? I don't plan to spent a huge amount of money, but secondly I also don't want to spent to less and buy a product that I will then replace after 1 month because it was to cheap.

Regards

Welcome to the forums! I unfortunately do not use smaller drones or analog goggles so i dont have much in the way of recommendations, but others will be along with tons of info.

I will say that often, box goggles are cheaper goggles but reflect that in overall quality, with binocular style goggles being where you start to really get better quality and performance (or possible performance). Usually they have module bays where you can upgrade your video receiver with a better one (or they just come with a better one to begin with). If you have an idea of budget, others will tell you what the best goggles are for your money.

Thanks!

My budget is ~350$. When I look at binocular style goggles, it seems they don't come with antennas, so I can expect an additional amount on top of the price for the goggles?

I did notice analog vs. digital goggles. Yet another dimension to consider Smile The VTX on the drone would have to match that or?

Welcome!
The EMAX Tinyhawk III is a pretty good one for beginner if you don't want to build a quad by yourself.
Many modern binocular goggles have focus adjustment (or diopter slots) for near-sighted people which is very handy. But you have to decide which FPV system you want to get before deciding on FPV goggles. But for 350$ there are not a lot of choices when it comes to binocular goggles to be honest.

I don't mind building my own quad, that would be exciting, but is it possible to build one that I can crash without it getting to expensive if/when I break it?

In regards to choosing FTP system first, do you mean if I want analog or digital?

[EDIT]
Just found your article about FTP systems at https://oscarliang.com/fpv-system/
