GPS Brand / Model question
#1
I'm wanting to upgrade my GPS units from Beitian BN-220s to a GPS with a compass.

I'm looking at the M8Q-5883 and BN-880

I'm seeing several different m8q-5883s (matek, iflight, etc.) and for the BN880, I see Pyrodrone, RDQ, & Beitian versions.

Before I spend the money, I wanted to ask you guys which of the two you prefer and if the different brands make a difference at all

Thank you!

On paper, the BN-880 has better sensitivity than the other M8Q 5883 GPS.
And all the BN880 GPS you listed are the same, pyrodrone and RDQ just rebranded them (put their own stickers on the heatsink)

Hi Egg_FPV,

Before I purchased my first GPS unit, I did A LOT of research. One of
the things I noticed was that the Beitian units did not seem to be as
durable and would break easily during crashes. Now, this is important
to me since I crash a lot. It seems that people having issues with the
Beitian units were switching to the Matek M8Q-5883 units which
appear to better quality and survived crashes. I was more concerned
about the GPS unit surviving than sensitivity. Consequently, I purchased
the Matek units and have had absolutely NO problems with them

I have picked up a couple of other brands including an iFlight M8Q-5883
which I will install on one of my builds and test it to see how well it holds
up to my flying characteristics {crashes}Tongue

The Matek M8Q-5883 units are excellent. I would also recommend looking at the Flywoo version, which is a bit cheaper and lighter: https://flywoo.net/products/gm8-mini-v2-0-gps-w-compass
