Five33 Footy 5” HD build
#1
I have been wanting to try a five33 frame but I’m not a racer so getting a footy I could justify spending for, plus HDZero freestyle vtx will fit nicely in rear.
I’ve also been wanting to build a Umagawd Remix 2 but it’s not been available for over a year and after I got a Footy about a month ago now it’s available.
The footy is very close to a Remix 2 so flying characteristics should be the same or similar.
With a mid mount LiPo the CG should have some effects when flying or I will soon find out.
It’ll also hold a HDZero freestyle vtx,air unit or air unit lite, and it also can hold two cameras if I decide to compare analog with digital.
I’m going to try MR30 connectors for no soldering to try different motors.

Here’s a few pictures of the footy from five33 website.
It’s a very nice frame and the carbon fiber five33 uses is some of the best I’ve seen.Someone put a lot of time designing frame. It all fits together tightly and feels strong, rigid and still on the light side.
I like carbon fiber camera mounts and camera lens is well protected.
I’ll post pictures as build progresses.

 I’ll be using
HDZero freestyle vtx,V2 micro camera, the included BEC and antenna.(I may use FC BEC and sma depending if I can find a F7 meeting spec requirements).
T-motor F60 or Pacers from Black Friday sales
TBS XF nano or Ghost (Depending on BF 4.3 progress)
Hobbywing 40amp 4n1 and a F7 if I can find one in stock.

Here’s where I’m at on my build.I will rewrap the wires and zip ties with tape.
I may be able to use the cap and LiPo leads as they are and run them through the GoPro mount area.
For now my 4n1 solder work is done and until I get a F7 I’m at a standstill.

I dig that frame. I’m also curious about how the change in center of gravity effects flight.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

Thanks for the complements it helps my confidence.
If I remember correctly the frame built with hardware and tpu sma mount weighs about 128 grams.
Here’s a few more pictures of dry fit parts.
I have a good idea how I’m going to mount and run wires but I’ll give it a few more days and still waiting for FC to get back in stock.
I could steal a F7 off another quad but then it’s in perfect flying  shape so I’ll just wait for parts.

Finally got the footy ready to maiden.
Too wet today but next nice day I'll see just how good the Freestyle VTX does on 1 watt of power.

Here's a better picture.
After building the Footy, especially using the HD0 vtx I'd build it with the vtx in the stack area.

Hi Rob,

Looks GREAT.  Thumbs Up  Good Job. Thumbs Up

The frame is very similar to the Catalyst Machine Works SHOCKER
which also has all of the electronics under the main frame plate.

Thanks for compliments.
I’m starting to use Ghost 2.4 SRXL-2 and so far no problems.
I think the ghost duo hybrid is what the frame was designed around.
HDZero freestyle vtx is too big for the rear and  unless the tpu antenna mount is used for HDZero no other antenna mount will work.
I prefer to use antenna mounts like
 or this  [Image: tpgDYjel.jpg]
or a tpu sma adapter mount.
Here’s the mount print I’m using. It sandwiches in after a aluminum piece slides in.A bit unique and has a weak area but may collapse and protect too.Won’t know until I crash.

Once I get some flight footage of HDZero at 1 watt I’ll post a few videos.

I forgot about how 2306 motors aren’t as smooth at low power than 2207.I’m getting lots of jello at low power and I tried a new set of props, rechecked motors for any vibration or wobble and they are fine, plus at higher power jello goes away.
I think it’s just a tuning issue and motors sound like a gurgling 2 cycle motor at low power.

I’m following this bidirectional tune before adjusting sliders.

Bummer been too rainy and busiest time of year for me so no time to test the new settings on bidirectional dshot 300.
I don’t use anything except acro mode so I may turn off gyro and see how it flies.

I don't think you can generalised 2306 motor being not smooth at low rpm and also as the cause of the jello.
I have used a few sets of 2306 with no such issues compared to 2207 at low rpm.

There must be another reason like  settings/filter possibly. Hopefully you can fix it.

I posted a video of it and if I had a microphone it can be heard very easily and as I looked at some videos many pilots call it wobbles or throbbles.
Once the quad flies for 30 seconds or get past a certain rpm it’s smooth as silk but it can still be heard just not as strong as when it produces wobbles in the video feed.
I tried a few things today but still getting some bobbles.
Bidirectional helped but still needs some tuning.

when it is throttle related, give tpa in rateprofile some attention.

if you didnt allready, i would suggest to turn off d-min feature.

if you use bf4.3, a tuning preset could be worse a try :-)
