Clean looking build. Very good for a first build. I like how you turned the VTX back. I never thought of doing that. Keeps the stack a hair shorter. I am jealous your worktop is so clean. Quality products and you've certainly done your homework. The only "constructive criticism" I could give you is to remove the zip ties from the ESCs and fasten them in place with some electrical tape, the ties can cause damage. Doesn't even have to be black tape, you can get it in all kinds of colors to match your build Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 (26-Jan-2018, 05:13 AM)RENOV8R Wrote: Very nice. Then wrap everything in electrical tape afterward. The heatsink will protect the ESC from any damage that a zip tie might cause otherwise. That's a great looking build there Logan! I can't comment on your soldering as the pictures are too low resolution to see, but I can't see anything that looks wrong. I'm also suitably jealous of the ultra clean and tidy work space! Posts: 27 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 12 in 6 posts Likes Given: 16 Joined: Jan 2018 Reputation: 0 Thanks guys. I do have foam adhesive under the ESCs but I was wondering if it would be wise to put a prop blade over them with some tape for protection from a prop strike? Or will that aluminium heatsink provide enough protection? I like the look of it as is but I would rather not needlessly lose an ESC. Here is a closer shot of my soldering job. This was my first go. I did practice on a little microbug prior to this. Let me know if anything looks concerning. I think the aluminium heat sink will protect your ESCs against prop strikes fairly well. • Posts: 27 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 12 in 6 posts Likes Given: 16 Joined: Jan 2018 Reputation: 0 Well I finally got a new VTX in, finished my build, and got in the air. Man it was fun! First time flying outside of the sim. The vid below was my third pack where I started to feel a little more confident. As you can see, I got a little over confident. But I was grinning ear to ear the whole time. Impressed with the Rooster's resilience. I put it to the test at the end of this video. Final Build Maiden Flight: Damage taken: Nothing major despite a pretty hard hit. That VTX antenna rubber mount is not good. Mine popped out too. Chris should have just made it like the Chameleon instead. Nice flying? Where was turtle mode? • Posts: 27 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 12 in 6 posts Likes Given: 16 Joined: Jan 2018 Reputation: 0 (08-Feb-2018, 09:07 PM)voodoo614 Wrote: That VTX antenna rubber mount is not good. Any ideas for an easy mod? Well, I landed upright and it flipped on me when I tried to take off again. I figured something was wrong so I didn't attempt turtle mode. Unfortunately, that motor impact cracked and loosened a magnet. I went and bought some epoxy to try to fix it myself. We will see how it goes... • Posts: 2,286 Threads: 38 Likes Received: 1,527 in 995 posts Likes Given: 1,881 Joined: Apr 2016 Reputation: 72 I use the TBS Unify HV Race. My Rooster came with an alternative mount designed for the pigtail on the Unify VTX and that bolts on hard. Even if you don't have the Unify, you could probably still use this and bolt the SMA connector into the mount instead of using the two screws either side. I have to check to see if it is in the kit. • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 I just checked. Since I bought one of the first batch of Rooster, they didn't include the TBS mounting plate. I saw that Logan has one in the OP. • |
