Firefly 2 on a Tyro79
#1
The Tyro79 has a CF top plate that has 4 mounting holes in it that use M2 screws. I decided to use this as my mount point.

I then 3D modeled a 25 degree mount that would allow the use of 2 straps and use those 4 holes while trying to avoid my 2.4ghz vertical antenna and at the same time trying to keep the weight centered.

I printed it in ABS. If I get any Jello or movement I will put a "sticky" pad under the camera. The print came out pretty good. Good enough to see if this little quad can carry that camera. It does look a little big.

And some shots with the camera.

It is really windy today, if it settles down later I will give it a test flight.

Nice job on the mount Thumbs Up

Every time I see you design stuff like this it makes me realise the sooner I get a 3D printer the better, so I really need to get back onto that again. I would quite like a full enclosing TPU mount for my Firefly 2 like you see the GoPro sessions mounted in because I'm not sure how much I trust the camera sitting on an open platform with just a couple of straps around it. With the silicone casing on, it shouldn't slip out, but then again my Firefly 1 is physically clipped into it's all enclosing mount pretty solidly, and on one crash it pinged out and I spent at least 20 minutes walking around the field trying to find it in the grass. I now have an additional strap around that to try and stop it happening again.

Thank you sir !

This was a quick rudimentary mount to see if this little quad will perform with that on its back. Smile
If all goes well I will redesign it like you said, enclosed in TPU.
The front strap covers the hard to see LED so a better mount is in order if it flies well.

Going out to cut grass, have some lipo's charging just in case Smile

Well that really chub'd it up. so much for 250.

It has 1607 2300 motors so I think it will be fine, I also put some low pitch props on it. HQ 3X3X3's

I won't say anything if you don't! Big Grin

Cannot wait for video! I love the mount. I was looking at mounting my FireFly V1 on my Japalura, but then destroyed it. Seeing your mounting, I can see that the V2 is bigger but still manageable. Might have to update the motors on mine. Really looking forward to hearing how you feel it flies with the extra weight up high.

OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun!  Addicted :)

So I just went out and flew it.
Apparently I am an idiot and can't turn it on properly. I had 2 flights and I have 2 videos of after the flight when I picked it up and turned it off which was really on. Doh     Got some nice footage upside down swaping batteries Blush  And then I turned it off for the next flight Rolleyes
Damn that little LED is sure hard to see under the silicon sleeve outside. Maybe tomorrow I will have better luck.

I was on a 3S 850mah pack which is the same one I used last time and the difference was substantial. It felt really heavy and sluggish compared to without the camera. It was also pretty windy and I had to lean on the stick to get it to fly straight.
I will retest tomorrow with a 4S 650mah.

What a noob

Did you leave the beeper switched on in the settings? If you did then 1 beep is recording turned on and 3 fast beeps is recording turned off, so you shouldn't need to see the LED.

I'm tempted to run mine without the silicone case but it would need some Ummagrip or velcro on the bottom to keep it from slipping out of the bracket with the straps around it. Some rubberised straps would also be useful too because the supplied ones are just cheap slippy nylon.

Yes the beeper is on, however my hearing damage prevents me from hearing it. Inside I can hear it if I hold it up to my ear, but outside with the neighbor cutting grass I can't. Remember our little PWM freq project on beepers ?

I'll just be more careful in the future.

Of course, yes. Sorry, I seem to have a short memory so I completely forgot. Which reminds me that I also forgot about doing that PWM test I said I would do with my oscilloscope. With so much stuff going on I tend to forget things too easily.

No problem at all, there is always "stuff" to do. But it would be good to revisit at some point. I think I am going to get one those cheap Mustool or similar DMM style O scopes. I think it would do basic stuff like this. They are about $50-$60

Hi all,

i'm new here but wanted to thank you for the great insperation of the mount!!

As i notised that it is still a bit to steep for me, i played a bit on fusion 360 and uploaded the result.

1. I zip-tied the original Firefly to my tyro79 and noticed the the angle does not meet my skills yet: youtube
2. I looked around and only found this post, but not the stl files for it (maybe i also didn't search for to long  Confused )
3. I uploaded my version to thingiverse and wanted to share it with you, as this thread was the root for my way: thingverse

4. About the weight

I used the Firefly1 on 3s 800 and 4s 650 without noticing any change on the power, with the Firefly2 i recommend 4s if you want to have the usual insane climbe rate.

Let me know if you need some more changes on the mount or have any other questions.

Thanks and happy new year,

eXpire
