I am currently looking at getting the Creality Ender 3. I have heard some good things, fits in the budget and leaves some room for filaments and a couple upgrades.
Let me know if you guys know of anything better for a similar price range.

yea that's apparently the best value printer at the moment good choice!

LED button and DVR fitted
And the Fatshark module bay takes original covers perfectly.

All that's left to do now are the dip switches for changing channels, and the micro fan for cooling
Also need to design a mount so I can mount on a tripod, maybe something like a GoPro mount...

Dude that looks awesome! A Go-Pro style mount would let you mount/stand it almost anywhere you go.

I didn't forget about this project

After using the original design for about a year, i decided to move the module bay to the top side of the display so the antennas can be placed better. Overall size is also smaller.

I will release the design in the next week or so.

Out of interest, did you ever find a screen or a solution where the screen doesn't just go blue instead of turning to snow on a signal loss?

no i couldn't, but adding a DVR would solve that problem.

Love it! Just one thing, why no video out so you can use it as a ground station? Add some thread for a tripod and voila you are good to go. Or am I missing something here and that's not possible at all.
