FatShark HD3 DVR issues
#1
I made these 4 videos for FatShark support, thought I might ask the community. All videos on the same flight path, same quad, same battery, etc. but different antenna arrangement on the HD3 with True-D 3.8
All videos are with the quad using a RHCP @ 200mW

RHCP: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B076H5TV62/
LHCP: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B071CZD7WQ/

#48 the HD3 has (1) RHCP (same brand/model as on quad), (1) LHCP

#49 and #50 have (1) LHCP or (2) LHCP , I thought I could remember which was which, but I didn't, so one is with both LHCP and the other is just (1) with the other receiver empty.

#51 has (1) RHCP (same brand/model as on quad)

I usually just leave (1) LHCP and (1) RHCP on my goggles, and it works fine for my 25mW Tiny Whoop with a dipole inside the house, as it does with my Eachine Trashcan LHCP @ 200mW outside, and the big quad outside RHCP@200mW. The video feeds are flyable, but the DVR is only horrible on the big quad with the RHCP@200mW. You'll see the paths I take are full of obstructions around the neighbors house and sometimes you can't see anything at all in the DVR, but I make it through with no issues (I got a little close to that one banana tree due to throttle). I can see well enough real time, its just the DVR that's really really bad.
The Tiny Whoop is 600VTL NTSC, the big quad is 1200VTL NTSC; not real sure about the Trashcan, but it is a Caddx Turbo Eos2 like I have on my big quad, so I'll assume it's 1200VTL NTSC also, but could be PAL I guess(?).

Is there something wrong with my DVR? or a setting somewhere in the goggles I'm not aware of?

First things first, have you installed the v1.2a firmware update for the FatShark DVR? If you haven't then I would certainly recommend you do that first to see if it solves the issue or if it at least makes it any better. See the following thread...

I wonder if the high power line is interfering some how.

I have not done that. I was finding conflicting information about it, so I didn't do it. I saw somewhere that if your set was manufactured after a certain date, the update wasn't necessary. But I'm not sure the things I was reading are related. And I was unable to find information on how to check the installed firmware version. Which is why I contacted FatShark support on May 16th. I got one reply, they said what they're seeing is typical when you're antennas aren't aligned properly, and asked fr more videos. I posted more videos 7 days ago, and haven't heard anything back yet.
It doesn't make any sense that I haven't moved the antennas, which are mounted in 45-90 degrees-ish apart, and video feeds look the same on 3 different models, but only the DVR is shit on one of them.

I'd think if it was an antenna problem, all feeds from all models would look bad; they don't, they look about the same.
I'd think if it was a DVR problem, all the records from all models would look bad; they don't, just one looks bad, the other 2 look as expected.
I'd think if it was a problem specific to that one model, the live feed AND the recording would look bad; they don't, only the DVR is bad.

I was half expecting FS Support to tell me I had some setting out of sorts on the one model, and it was incompatible with the DVR format, or something similar. Like, Oh, the camera was PAL and the DVR only supports NTSC, but the live feed was compatible with both. Something like that could explain why DVR is only bad on one model.

If the DVR firmware was bad, why does only 1 out of 3 models look bad? Why aren't they all bad?
How can I tell if I already have the firmware update or not?

Went and loaded the 1.2a firmware, nothing bricked.
Here's a flight with that 1.2a firmware:
Live feed looked the same, I guess? The DVR looked just as bad.
Was having some trouble flying, wind was gusty and had to bail in the grass for a moment to let a golf cart get out of the area.

I swapped out the RHCP antenna on the model with a different brand LHCP one. The live feed looks about the same, but the DVR is better. The RHCP antenna recordings would get all choppy right next to me, but the LHCP didn't get bad until halfway down the street.
Which still sucks, but better than it was.
Guess I'll have to cough up some cash for better antenna. Going to be a while though, I just got out-sourced. Does anyone need an IT/Dev/Automation guy??
