HappyModel, or BetaFPV products. Which would you trust more on your long range quad Big Grin

HGLRC are also bringing out a module (see post #72). From a QC perspective I think they can probably be trusted a bit more going on the track record of the other two.

I think I have already tested the Happy Model 2.4GHz Tx module and EP1 receiver quite well in real conditions at 100 mW (tested on a framerate of 50 to 500 Hz). It works absolutely great, I tested the firmware RC8, RC9 and 1.0 final. As for the range, it can't be published, I didn't get to FS even at 500 Hz, the limit is only the VTX range.

I have been using the HM EP1 receiver for 2 months in my LR drone with great success, I am extremely satisfied. I ordered two more EP2 receivers with an SMD antenna for my other drones. One receiver came in fine, the other had a destroyed antenna. The packaging of the receiver is very careless, they do not use any bubble wrap. The antenna is made of a special type of plastic, it is not shock resistant. The photos show how the antenna line is broken after the mechanical damage, so the antenna is not the correct length.

I decided to replace the antenna, it can be bought at Farnell (47948-0001 - Molex - ANTENNA, 2.4GHZ, ON-GROUND (newark.com)), for example, and it is not expensive at all. I was worried about desoldering the antenna because it's really small. But be careful here and why I mainly write it all. It was enough to push the antenna a little more from the side and the antenna tore off the PCB. The antenna line is very prone to mechanical damage and is not exactly firmly attached to the antenna body itself. By this I mean that the antenna may fall due to careless handling or impacts. And there is certainly no shortage of drone impacts on anything. The photo shows the antenna from below with a torn antenna line and the last photo shows a PCB ready to solder a new antenna, where it was necessary to desolder the remnants of the antenna line.


So my recommendation is to put the receiver in a shrink tube immediately after soldering, it should relieve the strain on the antenna. And most importantly, place the receiver in the frame so that the antenna is not in direct contact with the frame or its components.

2.4 GHz immortalT style antennas are small enough to not want SMD antennas anyways.

So it looks like the HGLRC Herme ExpressLRS module and receiver is now available. It's a shame that HappyModel are still the only manufacturer who are making receivers with a ceramic antenna, so there is still no competition for that (yet).

That's really great news. I'll take Flywoo manufactured hardware over Happymodel (or BetaFPV) stuff for my critical RC link any day of the week.

Take a look at the link in post # 82 I gave above. Flywoo does not manufacture this receiver, it is manufactured by the unknown company HiYOUNGER.

i installed a crsf nano rx with just on single wire, i tought i would nee to go for sbus as protocoll ant wont get an lq informations. i runs on crsf and a single wire, i even got lq ... i dont know what difference is by connecting rx and tx? latency?

i need to save weighton that build and hav an expresslrs 2,4ghz module and one tiny receiver. can elrs work by just connecting to the fc rx? like i do with the crsf nano rx. thank you for any answer or help.

SBUS is limited to a certain data/packet rate and latency is relatively high which is why even ELRS guys do not want to offer it.

With CRSF protocol you can get much higher data/packet rate and lower latency.

The CRSF protocol will still work over a single wire connected to the RX pad on the FC. Without the TX wire also connected you just won't get any FC telemetry data back to your transmitter. The RC link will still be fully functional. Assuming that ELRS implements CRSF to the proper specifications then it should work the same way.

EDIT: Because of the above, it effectively makes SBUS redundant on Crossfire and ELRS so I see no good reason for the ELRS developers spending any time bothering to implement SBUS.
