11 I do like using 4n1 ESC but I like no noise in goggles even more.
I see lines when I apply lots of power in almost all my quads.Even digital has them and sometimes the props confuse focus if they are in camera view.
Does using single ESC help clean up video in goggles?
Is there any benefits of using single ESC besides less cost to replace one if a esc blows?

118 06-Jun-2022, 10:49 PM (This post was last modified: 06-Jun-2022, 10:50 PM by kafie1980.) I have no more single ESC’s on builds and just left with one single ESC as a test platform for motors.
But with single ESC’s back in the day, I would end up adding 5 capacitors on a quad: 1 cap on each ESC and 1 large cap on the PDB.
Other drawbacks are excessive wiring, additional connections to solder, mounting on arms and high susceptibility to prop strikes.
For your question: was the video clearer? Not by much IIRC.

789 I have some of the original Holybro Tekko32 35A single ESCs on a 5" analogue build from back in the day when quads had really wide arms and everyone was using single ESCs. 4-in-1's were starting to become the new kid on the block but also came with reliability issues compared to the singles so not many people were using them back then. As time has gone on, 4-in-1 ESCs have become much more reliable and quad frame designs have evolved with thinner width arms while being thicker top-to-bottom which aren't suitable for mounting single ESCs to, so single ESCs have somewhat fallen out of fashion over the years which is another reason they're not particularly cheap. Supply and demand tends to dictate price.
I wouldn't say the video noise interference is any better / worse with single ESCs. It's really all down to the ESC design along with any wiring and filtering (capacitors) used. Being out on the arms away from the VTX has some advantages but then you have additional external wires that can induce noise. So it's all pros and cons. I personally wouldn't consider using single ESCs these days unless I had a very good reason to.
