A serious question in my mind: is anyone even remotely interested?

I'm not interested personally as I wasn't with the DJI FPV Drone (well at least not after it came out anyway), but I have a feeling that this could end up taking the cinewhoop scene by storm with all of the onboard automation & sensors, and based on DJI's history of flight and battery efficiency I bet flight time will also be quite a bit more than DIY built cinewhoops which means pilots will have more time to get the shots they need without needing to keep landing and swapping batteries. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Maybe it will just end up being a complete flop like the flying potato was Big Grin

Also, the nearer this and the new V3 goggles get to release, the sooner us DIY FPV System owners know that our days of being able to get new hardware are probably numbered Sad

My question is .. can this quad be disassembled and fitted to a carbon fiber freestyle frame?

Looks like the props ( 2.5", 3"?) have quite aggressive pitch with tall stator motor. And there's obstacle avoidance sensors so i presume it will be more like their gps camera drone.
Not interested but I will be curious about its flight time. I struggle to get more than 3 minutes with many of my cinewhoop ( 2.5" to 3.5")

The main questions I see:
- what goggles will be released
- will the goggles be sold seperately
- will there be vistas/Airunits
- will it be backward compatible

That the system will use the new ocusync, thats for sure, but will there be smth for the FPV market or will they drop it. DJI is like Apple, so closed system, only boxed sets, so I assume that will be it.

I think we have enough incompatible products from DJI to know that compatibility is the last thing on DJI's checklist.

But there is always hope Smile

Given I'm used to flying sub 170g AUW 3.5" quads and that thing weighs either 400g or 500g, it'll be slow/chonky and probably noisy. My 5" racer is less than that. Makes me wonder why you'd fly that over a mavic mini given there is no manual/acro mode apparently.

I'm interested in the FPV tech it uses though, but low latency might not be important given how it's flown. It might just be what people who only fly Cinewhoops in angle mode with naked gopros are looking for though.

The weight is probably because DJI will want atleast 20mins flight time out of it will obstacle avoidance and a bunch of sensors for auto landing.

Their intention is a consumer grade product instead of a hotrod.

The move is quite smart. People already owning a DJI are now able to also film in the inside until now only possible for trained professionals like us  Big Grin
So its clearly an addon
Also DJI users can no get closer to stuff.
I think mavics are very polished so a lot of people are not keen on upgrading to the next iteration of the same. The FPV might be to fast / dangerous for a lot of users.

so, kudos for trying this move

DJI is very amazing.I’d get bored flying their earlier quads but they do have some very reliable consistent equipment.
Is the prop thrust lines of each motor and duct in a different plane?
If so it’ll be interesting if it was designed for max thrust and efficiency.
If the prop thrust over laps from each prop/duct then perhaps it can create drag, loss of efficiency, etc….
I am very curious what technology DJI will use for the FPV system in the Avata.

Here is the FCC filing for the new DJI Avata cinewhoop which got posted on the FCC website today. It looks like it's going to have a 4S 2420mAh battery which should give it a fairly decent flight time. The original release schedule of the end of July is rumoured to be delayed due to a factory move / expansion. There are suggestions that the new release date will be around the end of August. I guess we will also see the new DJI Goggles 2 released at the same time, and probably also the new DJI O3 Air Unit as well (see another post about those HERE).

Below is the first (typical poor quality) leaked photo of the DJI Avata being tested.

I’m curious if V1 goggles and radio controller are compatible with all the air units that have been sold?
Will Avata have an air unit in it?
