Different confidence level for right/left turns
#1
I have restarted the FPV hobby after 2 years break. When I paused it, I was kind of at the end of the beginner level in terms of flying skills. After 2 years my skills went back quite a bit...is not like starting from zero but almost there. I've noticed that I am much more confident and do a better job whenever I turn the quad left. I can barely do right turns properly. Today I paid extra attention to what I'm doing and I've noticed that I don't like moving the yaw stick right for some reason...My yaw rates are higher than roll/pitch (3 times higher) but I still can't move that yaw right...is hard to force myself. Apart from just dealing with it and practicing right turns are any other advice Thinking ? Is this a common issue...do you prefer one side to the other?
P.S> I think I have a favorite side for turns when I'm on the motorbike as well...

It is quite normal to find it easier to do certain moves in one direction versus the other direction. If you fly with Mode 2, yaw and throttle are on the same stick, so you need to be able to manipulate yaw without unintentionally moving the throttle. Practicing that movement on the gimbals (no drone) so you can do it without thinking/looking may help you better control your turns. Probably even more so if you are thumbing, how you hold the radio may affect it too.

I'm a mostly left-turn person as well. For some reason I just find it easier. I have no idea why. The same topic has been discussed on the forum previously in the threads linked to below. The second thread has a useful video in the second post that might help you Smile

Lefty here, right is so much harder. I think it's because over here when we drive, turning left is easier than right as you turn into the flow of traffic as opposed to across it. So it gets subconsciously drummed into you and the same comes out when you fly. The more you fly, the more you learn to just turn whichever way you want. It's all practice.

I'm in the left is easier camp for sure. Almost every time I fly I end up orbiting something counter-clockwise. When I notice it I try to get in a clockwise orbit and some extra right turns. Winter sim training seems to help a lot. Figure 8s will show/help the shortcomings as well.

fwiw, I was lefty, converted to righty at at early age, converted back to lefty after wrecking my arm, then back to righty. My handwriting is virtually illegible! I still snowboard/skate goofy-foot and have always been more comfortable making right turns. Motorcycles and bikes, no difference I've noticed.
