I've been sitting on this track for over a year, but have had so many teething problems with my cruising build that I've just not gotten the footage. Maybe in spring ... The ground is for dead people. The buildup, the tempo, yea that nails it! At some point when I get good enough, I want to actually listen to the track while I am flying and fly to it lol. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 Das bling!! I don't think I've seen so many LEDs before on a single quad lol. I got it powered directly off lipo using the included LED PDB. Def getting tight in there. I'm just a hair under 600g now auw with a 1300mah 4s with the bling adding about 15g ... so worth it. I've got a slider set up to change the color. But it only changes for a certain tight range of colors depending on the starting color you select. I'm trying to see if there's a way to get the full range of colors on that slider. That'd be super bling. I'm going to try out those 5-blade props too. Likely bring down the P/D to give the motors some slack what with the added weight and extra blades. Great chill vibe! I am going to watch more of your music, but I will hook it up to the stereo where I can do the sound justice. I really enjoyed this. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 iFly, the kit comes with the orange ducts. I picked up a set of blue to match the motors. Only after did I come across the super bling LED ducts. Alright guys. Got distracted for a little bit there with work and an epic game of Ark. But before I got distracted I swore I would put this thing on a serious diet. After the LEDs, I did a living room test hover and the motors were already getting hot LOL. In a friggin test hover wow. Reality hit me and I realized I (and frankly most people that pimp this thing out), are just way over weighing these things. Sure there are ducts that may help a bit with thrust but at the end of the day, it's still a 3 inch. You might be able to get away with a bit more weight running 6S but my particular build is 4S. So ... * LED delete ... back to the blue and orange ducts. Kinda pissed about this I really liked that bling. ~15g savings * Switched out the T-Motor mini stack with a Jhemcu F4 AIO. I miss the F7 goodness and BLHeli_S means no more RPM filtering ... is it worth the ~10g savngs? We'll see lol. * Got rid of bulky 3d printed TPU mount for an SMA antenna and the MMCX to SMA adapter for a solid 10g+ savings. I now have the TBS Pro VTX in the rear with a direct connect to an AXII antenna with MMCX. * Going back to triblades from the pentablades more for not taxing the motors than anything else. All in all, I am seeing just south of a 40g savings. I'm hoping to take it for a spin tomorrow to see how she flies now. I just can't get past the frame weight for a 3 inch. You know, I think a 50 gram frame is overweight for anything less than a 7 inch. I would like the ducts, but don't want a flying brick either; they kind of look like that, too. I'm watching you, man; seeing how this one goes for you. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 18-Dec-2020, 08:05 PM (This post was last modified: 18-Dec-2020, 08:07 PM by the.ronin.) Well keep watching iFly ... the piece of crap Jhemcu AIO would barely power on when I went to test this thing out this morning lol. Man I was livid. I'm going to go back to my policy of staying away from new name brands for a while. But your concerns I think are wholly warranted. I really don't think simply adding ducts makes a 3 inch that much more efficient - even with just low amp cine flights. But I still think there's something to be said about the *appearance* of safety of these gaudy contraptions. In the video I posted earlier, I flew by a jogger and a group of kids playing soccer and not one of them gave the drone a second thought. And it is more than just appearance. I bumped into a tree and bounced right off like a bumper car LOL. That was pretty cool. As for this thing, I'm gonna let steam off in a nice toxic game of Ark lol and then get back to it and rebuild. I'm tempted to say eff it and just go back to my LED blinged out, overweight Taycan and call it a day. I have been itching to build out this Diatone Roma 4 inch micro long range but wanted to finish up this Taycan beforehand. • Posts: 51 Threads: 3 Likes Received: 19 in 15 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 0 Guess I know my next build, great work love it Bulldog Bill • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 19-Dec-2020, 03:15 AM (This post was last modified: 19-Dec-2020, 03:30 AM by the.ronin.) Thanks Bulldog. I'd recommend it if you were looking for something different from the standard 5 inch ripper. It's def different lol. I basically went back to my prior build with the T-Motor F7 stack. I also said eff it and put back the LED bling. Basically the only thing different is that I'm using a direct mount AXII 2 MMCX antenna rather than the Triumph Pro SMA with the bulky TPU adapter and MMCX to SMA extension. Honestly, it was mostly because I had had it with this build and didn't feel like waiting around for a print lol sad. And since we were putting all the weight back on anyaway, Gemfan pentablades it is LOL. To address the hot motors, I lowered D to 35 from 40 where I normally never go lower than 40 on a 4S build. P was lowered in proportion. And heaven forbid I actually just up the filters ... heck no lol. I now see some prop wash and mild, likely I-term induced, oscillations. But at speed, the thing is actually quite solid. I didn't bother to check motor temps mostly because I forgot. They did not spontaneously combust though which is a good thing. With the 1300mAh 4S lipos, I'm getting 3:45-ish which I'm totally fine with. I didn't bother weighing it I didn't wanna know LOL. I wish I took some 3rd person B roll to show off the LED blingage, but I wasn't intending to turn what was supposed to be a test flight into a video but figured what the heck lol ... [edit] I showed the DVR footage in the beginning because I am really diggin the Foxeer T-Rex ... 1500TVL ftmfw!! lol Posts: 51 Threads: 3 Likes Received: 19 in 15 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Dec 2020 Reputation: 0 Ifly If I build one guess I will have to get my scales out . Which JHEMCU board did you use Interesting and confusing since I use the JHEMCU brand and not had any issues with them But your concerns I think are wholly warranted. Also, I do have 3 inch props and prop guards on the Phantom-X quad...HERE is a picture. . Hi Ronin, Yeah, I am gonna build one, but try to keep mine as light as I can given that it will still be a "heavy". Just got to get those two 7 inch builds done and in the air. The park where you fly is really cool Love your videos Also, I have added the Lumenier 1507.2 3500Kv Turbine motors to my Parts Guide; Thanks. • Posts: 5,880 Threads: 47 Likes Received: 2,779 in 2,241 posts Likes Given: 7,652 Joined: Jul 2019 Reputation: 97 Hi Ronin, I went back through this thread and found where you switched out the T-Motor stack for JHEMCU {which one, they have several}. Now, I like that you used the Foxeer T-Rex 1500 TVL camera; the video from that camera looks really nice; it looks like you can really tell the difference. What camera do you normally use for FPV? There is another thread where some have said that you can't tell the difference between a 700TVL and a 1000TVL, much less a 1200TVL or 1500TVL. The theory is that the VTX doesn't transmit at anything higher than 700TVL so you lose the quality of the higher TVL. Thing is, by your video, it looks like you actually can tell the difference.
