Crossfire V2 kit - help needed
#31
Guys, cannot decide where to mount antenna..
Scratching my head about this way too much..
I cannot yet find best 3d print for Martian II, so I have 2 options for now. (also want to do it quicker to get it for testing).
Any idea which one of these would be more efficient? Default arm position or perhaps better to gopro mount?
It has nice dedicated area where I could place the T, and it would be the furthest away from carbon.
I just have to drill small hole to get connector through to RX.

Let me know what you think which is the best, let's say max 2km range but with confidence that I could go over some piles of high trees n stuff.
Not only freestyle but some cinematic flying a bit further away ??

Eventually thinking of 3d print for vertical alignment.

I have a universal R9MM or Crossfire mount that I created. But you will need to replace your standoffs in the rear for it to work. I will post photos in a bit when I get home.

Thanks,

Currently I mounted it on rear arm, works great!
First flight with crossfire, range is impressive Smile
Didn't push the limits, but for my flying and arm mount it definitely gives such a boost of confidence.

Went much further than usual, and easily cruised back.
As Snow said, really happy with results.

Saw LQ only once to flip to mode 1, and had kind of low RSSI (warning in OSD), but that was pretty damn far and low to the trees.
Will use vertical mount when I feel a need for some longer range :Smile got that printed out just need to pick it up!

I've noticed what I consider to be a minor bug in Betaflight 4.2 with the "Link Quality" warning message in the OSD. When the LQ value is <=80 it will flash up the warning even when the RFMD value is still 2. That warning shouldn't really flash up until the RFMD value is <2 AND the LQ value <= 80. It caught me out a few times thinking I was going out of range when in fact RFMD was still 2. I've verified this by looking back through multiple DVR recordings and whenever LQ hits 80 (regardless of the RFMD value) the "Link Quality" warning pops up briefly until LQ either goes back over 80 or the RFMD value drops down to 1 (when the LQ value then also jumps back up to 100). I will check if anyone has raised a Betaflight bug report for the issue and if not I will raise one so it can hopefully be fixed in a future release.

It looks like a couple of people have already beaten me to it and saved me the job. I may add my 2 cents worth to the one of the threads if I can think of anything useful or constructive to add...

Hmm yeah I heard about this, but in my case it was just RSSI being 31%.
I was about 1km out and went a bit too low behind the tree and at that point I got that RSSI warning.
I will try to find some long open field to test how far I can make it, haha.

Forget RSSI with Crossfire. It's completely useless and means nothing. Switch that off from your OSD and just use Link Quality in your display. That is all you need with Crossfire.

OK, so I should focus only on LQ. Understood.
I've read that 1:70 is the point where you want to "turn around". What do you think?

Yes, 1:70 is when you should immediately turn round and head back. I never even hit 1:80 on mine and that is on 100mW dynamic power. I set up a low signal callout on my Taranis for 1:80 and a critical signal callout for 1:70 in case I'm not paying attention to the OSD. Neither callouts have ever gone off.

It's a bit scary when it goes to 1:100 not gonna lie.
But while reading more and more I guess I can just keep pushing.
I keep worrying that it will suddenly drop from 1:100 to 1:70 in no time to react.
I need to test how RC link changes when I go behind trees while being 1km away...
That's what I am not yet commited to do, but really temped to Smile

BTW, I got ferrite core filters for Taranis noise..
Opened my QX7 and basically found out that I cannot find any place to fit them.
The main cables that goes from the board up to the speaker area are not really long and adding the filter makes the transmitter cover impossible to close..
So IDK where I can fit them. Maybe I just don't. Cannot hear the noise on the field anyways. Only indoors.

Dilemma - i've just received my Diamond antenna, and also ordered default antenna for RX.
Now, what will give me the best overall range for freestyle and some casual cruising 1-3km in field?

I am thinking of using Diamond antenna as default, but for drone I have following options.
1) Arm mount (currently using)
2) Vertical mount (got 3d part printed)
3) L antenna as in Steele video

Any suggestions welcome Smile Smile
