Cheap DJI Frame thoughts
#1
Hi all
I was initially going to just get a banggood clone as a starter frame purely as it was cheap to crash and break (while I build something better), but FlickeryVision and Snowleopard convinced me to rather get a cheaper non-copy. So, I just wanted to run a few thoughts past you and get any ideas. I started a new post as the previous's title wouldn't represent this.

I'm going DJI air unit so am looking for a frame that has a decent way of incorporating. The others suggested a Source One as it's dirt cheap and you can fit a DJI in. The cost of that frame with the 3D printed parts to allow a nice fit of air unit would result in a cost around £35. I started looking around in that price range (+- £10) and saw there are a few frames in that range specifiacally for DJI with more space than the Source One. So I started wondering if those would be a better choice and would only cost me a couple bucks more. I narrowed it down to the below and would welcome any experience with them and knowledge of getting spares, etc.

Source One with DJI 3D printed parts - Cheap as chips but a very tight fit.
iFlight DC5 HD Freestyle Frame - Looks good but dead cat style so would need multiple arms as spares with me.
GEPRC MARK4 HD5 DJI FPV - Cable between camera and air unit quite tight but comes with crossfire antenna mount which is handy

I also considered others (e.g. NewBeeDrone, Transtec, ImpulseRC, Flywoo, Flightclub, Armattan) but they were either too expensive for now, I couldn't fine easy spares/UK-seller or didn't connect/look the way I envisioned.

Thanks for any advise.
Alan

Any of the frames would work. I'm not sure why you would need extra arms specifically for a deadcat frame unless I'm missing something. The iFlight DC5 might actually make quite an interesting frame for flying with the digital system. You definitely won't have props in view of the camera.

As for antenna mounts etc, if you don't have a 3D printer it is easy to find already designed stuff on Thingiverse and then you can get Multi Rotor Spares in the UK to print the STL file for you. I've used them in the past and was very happy with the service they provided. You send them the STL you want printed at the link below and they will provide a quote for the item which you can then just pay for if you want to go ahead with it.

There's also a possibility that I could print you off the odd part or two although I currently have limited colours in TPU and I don't really want to start get into the 3D printing service business if I can possibly help it Big Grin

I just meant that the front and back aren't identical so for some on-hand spares I would need front and back spare arms. The Geprc looks symmetrical  so a spare arm could cover front and back (but I haven't confirmed).

Geprc Mk4 HD5 is a good value frame and I run the dji camera cable between the stacks. The replacement arm is universal for both front and rear. I had mine for a year now and changed it to 6 inch a few months ago. It flies well without major tuning in my case. No regret.

Are the props in view?

I was hoping everyone was going to say to get one of them. Now I'm still confused on which to get. Maybe I'll go by whichever has good UK sellers of spares (I'm too inpatient to wait if I want to fly) and have the model in stock now  Tongue

Due to how tight the camera cable is on the GEPRC Mark4, if you decide to go with one of those frames then you should also get one of the following Air Unit mounts printed which relieves the strain on the camera cable...

Which frame do you think looks the best, with the strongest/thickest carbon frame/arms.

You cannot go wrong if you follow your heart. Heart

If I was in your position I would buy the iFlight DC5 HD. Smile

No props in view with the Mk4 HD 5".

I was comparing 5” air unit frames.
I looked at Rotor riot HD1 5” with true X frame,Transtec Freedom HD 5” and Geprc Mark 4 HD.The TT and Geprc are close to identical,H frame, and they likely copied each other but coping a X,H,etc... frame is almost unavoidable.

I got the Transtec Freedom.

I haven’t tried a X frame but Rotor riot hd1 looks beefy and priced reasonably.
