Big Whoop / Cinewhoop 3” Build
#46
Hi Harry
Not sure where you got imgur from ? I am using the forums "attachment". I click the "choose files" and upload them here, or so I thought? But it seems that if I put more than 5-6, they don't all show properly, again ??

This was one of those builds that I want it to do everything Smile I don't think I need Inav in the woods where I need the Ducts. And I don't need the ducts while doing "missions" in Inav.  I will see how it flies in both scenarios and decide if it is a crossover or a flying turd Sad

The good thing is, I am having fun !

Hi Scott,

I have attached a graphic of the various attachment or insert methods.

imgur is located just below the Smilies when you are working on a post.
Using this method seems to always insert the picture directly into the post.
I just don't like how it compresses the image which seems to affect the image
quality, at least for me. Maybe I will experiment more with this at a later date.

There is also an "Image" button on the button bar just to the left of the "link" button.
I don't know how this one works as I have never used it because I don't store any
pictures on the internet or on any internet storage. It doesn't seem to let me browse
for pictures on my local hard drive.

I use the Attachments method at the bottom of the post. Yeah, "Choose Files",
browse to the location on my local hard drive, select the file, then Add Attachment.
Interestingly, you can also update the attachment later with a newer file. When I
use this method, the pictures never go into the main body of the post.

If I try to use the "Insert Into Post" button, I just get the thumbnail inserted which
is very small and NOT the full sized image. Not a big deal, just confusing.  Confused

Now, I am guessing that you store the pictures on the internet since they all have
a .php extension which is an internet webpage language extension. If so, that may
be why things come and go. It is also subject to each person's internet quality and
load at the time of viewing. It may also be why you can effectively only get about
5 or 6 pictures before things start getting sketchy.

 I am curiousConfused
If you use this method, how do the pictures get inserted FULL SIZE into the main body of the post  Huh

That is how I do it too. (Green box) But after I "Insert into post" (which I place all at the bottom) I click on the attachment, it opens in a new window, I copy that web address and then use the "Insert image" box you have circled in red.

Here is your attachments address https://intofpv.com/attachment.php?aid=7615   It is stored on this forums server.
All that box really does is slap some img tags on either end {img]https://intofpv.com/attachment.php?aid=7615[/img] I made the first bracket wrong so it would not post

But here it is with the bracket corrected

The box also gives you the choice to resize it.
I never really noticed the imgur thing over there before? Or thought much about it as I do not use it. I think I thought it was for you to use your own imgur account or something.
If that makes sense

Keep in mind when using the native forum attachment system that each member has an attachment quota, and when your total quota has been used up you will no longer be able to attach any files to any future posts using the native forum file attachment mechanism. I don't know what the quota has been set to for each user, but any files stored on the forum server will incur a storage cost by the forum owner (Oscar), so while the quota will likely be "reasonable" it is not going to be infinite and you will eventually end up using your full quota.

I normally prefer to upload files natively to a forum because in the event the the 3rd party image hosting company shuts up shop (like tinypic did a few years back), all the embedded images aren't then lost because they are stored natively on the forum server, but in the case of this particular forum I do actually make use of imgur for posting images for the reason mentioned in the first paragraph.

If you use the imgur box on the left when creating a post, the image is uploaded to an account specifically associated with and owned by the forum. You can still however upload images to your own imgur account and post the image links from that inside "img" tags. Imgur actually gives you a number of links for an uploaded image one of which is already wrapped in "img" tags for use on forums, so you just copy/paste that. One advantage of using your own imgur account is that the image remains in the full size you uploaded it as rather than getting automatically scaled down to 600 pixels wide / high (if it is larger than that) which is what happens when you use the imgur box on the left, but if your own imgur account is ever closed down or deleted then all of the embedded images will also disappear.

So there are pros and cons of using any of the image attachment options.

All good points Snow

If you look at your user control panel under "manage attachments" It will tell all.
Here is mine.

With the amount of stuff I post I should be fine, without too much load on the forum. Almost 500mb allowed with a max picture size of 500kb sounds pretty close to 1000 pictures. But I will never get close

First, Thank You Scott for pointing that out. I just never thought of that. I might use it.

Yes, Snow, there is a limit which I am always aware of. Currently, I am at 17% which is 83.74 MB of 488.28 MB.
Just as a note, after I once upload an attachment, I try to NEVER upload that image again. Instead, I find it and
embed the image link into some text in the post {yeah, you have to click on it to see the picture, but it optimizes
the storage space vs the usage or rather re-usage of images}. Another thing that I do is try to name the image
so that it makes sense to the thread and the post. It makes the image easier to find and easier know where it
was in the first place. Of course, I still have them on my local hard drive.

I agree, I don't use any internet {IE: third party site} to store anything. Not Drop Box, nor Google Storage, nor
any other on-line storage facility.

I am a bit skeptical.  Dodgy

Now, I do have my own domain so I could potentially put up a website to store images, but I am just not that ambitious.

If this site ever really goes down, we are all doomed.  Sad

That made me smile Smile

You can get the url from the attachment manager and use the img tag and imbed them in line with your post, like I did with your image  no extra storage on the server, just using the image not the thumbnail.

I was cutting some G10 for a 75mm brushless build and decided that since the mill was set up with the spoil board that I would just go ahead and cut the G10 for this as well. I know it will need it at some point. I still have not had a chance to really fly this, just a few hover tests.

The mentioned 75mm frame
[Image: attachment.php?aid=7811]

In this shot it has been drilled, then the screws were added so it would not fall free when contoured. After the contour cut it was machine chamfered.

A close up of the chamfer and tool

To chamfer the other side it needs to be back in exactly the same position. In this shot I used the same size drill as the motor mount holes and put one in each corner before putting the hold down screws back in. This located the part properly.

Then I chamfered this side and then machine tapped the 8 M3 holes for the 2 stacks.

And if you look at the spoil board, just to the upper right of the frame, you can see the cutout of the top plate too. It was cut from the same material as the 75mm frame which was 1.5mm, this is 3mm material.

It is supposed to be warming up this week, if it does not rain, I may get a chance to fly this.

I’m crossing my fingers in hopes that you’ll have a chance to fly it.

That level of precision boggles my mind.

It’s looking great!
Dangerous operations.

I have not had any experience with something this heavy. Not sure if my motors are big enough or how long my batteries will last or if it will come down hot.....so many questions.

Is this something E-calc would be good for?  The motors are Mamba Toka's 1606 2700kv

Ecalc would be helpful for this if you can find all the info you need.

I couldn’t find any load performance data for the 2700kv version of those motors. For the 3100kv, on 4s, with Gemfan d75 (I don’t know how these compare to the hq’s), at full throttle- 796g thrust. That leaves you with what, a 7:1 power to weight ratio?

It’ll certainly fly.
Motors might come down hot if you have to keep your throttle high just to hover?

I appreciate you looking that up! I wonder why the 2700's were not listed ??

Or I could just go outside and fly it  Big Grin It got up to 50 today and was fairly dry, I got a chance to sneak out and fly it.

First pack was a RDQ 4S 650mah. I took off in angle mode and it seems pretty zippy in the vertical direction but would not go forward worth a damn. This is Inav so I was guessing it had some angle limits applied , I switched to horizon and everything was good. It actually flies pretty good Smile The weight penalty is those Toka's really want the current, I was seeing all kinds of sag on my 3yr old batteries and they were only 75C to begin with. With the old battery and a few punches, I barely got back to the patio in 3 minutes.

I brought it in and checked everywhere in the configurator but could not find the angle limit setting. I started reading the dump and figured it had to be   small_angle =25  I changed it to 90.

Second pack was a Tattu 4S 650mah. I took off again in angle mode and had much more available pitch and could actual go fast and forward Smile But 90 is still not enough, I think 120 would be better.
Switched back to horizon and again all is better. Except the awful sag, this battery was even worse than the RDQ. But just driving around nice I got almost to 3 minutes before it started raining Sad

But I think in reality that it will need 1000-1200mah 100c batteries.
I have some CNHL 4S 1500mah 100c  for my 5" ( brand new ) but XT60   I do have a 30 to 60 adapter  Thinking

It flies pretty good  Thumbs Up

Also, I cannot seem to "trim" my accelerometer with the standard Betaflight stick commands. They do not seem to have any affect. I am pretty sure the documentation says it is the same commands as betaflight.
Unless it won't do it when you bypass an arming safety. I have the arm bypas set to on so I can arm without GPS lock. So I can do the hover tests inside where it is not windy. It really drifts back and to the right. If I check it's attitude in Inav it seems fine and level, but it drifts pretty bad when hovering.
Any other way to trim it ?
I used these commands for mode 2 about halfway down the page https://github.com/iNavFlight/inav/blob/...ontrols.md
I even used the "save" command

Glad to hear that it flew!

Those motors can handle 3s to 6s, maybe try a 5s battery?
I don’t know anything about inav. Can you create a new model on your tx and just use the actual trim switches on your tx?
Dangerous operations.

I thought that the trim switches on the TX were global , across all models. Thats why we don't use them if we have more than 1 model ?

I think ?
