Better GPS than BN-220?
#16
Got the BN-880 working (after first soldering tx to tx and rx to rx of course and scratching my head for three days Big Grin ).

Been reading about its magnetometer but still confused about do I need it and if it's working correctly. A lot of people seem to be having problems with it. Betaflight recognizes it and in betaflight compass points to north. So it's working maybe?

If you are running Betaflight then the compass is only useful for OSD (in analogue goggles only) to show you what compass direction your quad is flying. That is all. Only INAV makes use of the compass for autonomous flight.

To get the compass working correctly and reliably you also need to have it elevated up and away from the carbon fibre and electronics of the quad.

I have a compass on my GPS module but I don't bother using it. The SCL and SDA wires are just left disconnected.

Right, thanks! I soldered the wires but I'll just cut them off. The magnetometer is apparently stuck to the GPS with double sided tape, so might be able to take it off completely if I want to keep it as light is possible.
