Best T antenna Placement
#1
Hey guys,

I've been having trouble going through the FrSky T antennas like candycanes lately. I mount them on the bottom of the arm like described in oscars post here https://oscarliang.com/antenna-positioning-900mhz-rc/

Do you guys have any other ways to mount these T style antennas that works better? They tend to get bent a lot when I land and start to fracture where they go into the plastic part, and then they get flimsy and go into my props when I hit a tree or something.

I am going to order some original TBS immortal T's to see if the outcome is any different, and I may 3d Print a TPU mount to see if it helps but i'm not hopeful there.

Cheers,

I would say that it depends on what you are looking for.
Not an expert, but as I am building a mid range quad I have researched about it and it seems that if looking for better range, the best way to place it is in a vertical position (with also a vertical position antenna in the radio to match it). However, it is not very easy to achieve that and is not that practical either, particularly when landing. I printed a mount on TPU that I found in thingiverse but haven't tried it yet. There is a facebook group for r9 users with a lot of examples and ideas, you should have a look there.

Big stick to get it as far away from the quad as possible. Search for one of Krohsis's builds or Kaitlin I think does this as well.

I crash too much to do this so I just break antenna's but just not as much doing as if I did it their way Smile

Interesting ideas, thanks guys!

I'm wondering if I can print something to go ontop of my battery that runs the antenna along the top of the battery?

I think this may give poor signal though..

Yeah I reckon it would. You really want it as far away from anything electronic or your frame as you can.

Can't hurt trying though to see what happens.

Like Urban memtions, if it is up off the battery and the elements are away, i.e. perpendicular to the battery it might work ok.

Getting the antenna as far from RF reactive components is best, like batteries, CF, etc.  and of course vertical polarization.  But I think you're flying freestyle, and if so, then most of this doesn't matter.

Maybe practicing your landings is the fix?  Big Grin Wink
