Are there still FC options for individual ESCs?

Can you an individual ESC with any FC?

So say i have a standard F411 AIO FC. The three pads for the motor (or connector) are +v, -v, signal?

If you wire an individual ESC +v and -v to the battery (bypass the ESC on the AIO FC) and the signal wire to the signal pad on the ESC/FC would it work?

Sorry for the almost baby level question. Wink Just trying to get my head around it.

Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re asking, no- the three pads per motor output on an aio are strictly motor output. They run directly to the 3 pads on the motor, which then leads to the coils inside of the motor. Those pads are outputing voltage at motor drive levels, turning on and off/pulsing at the appropriate times to magnetize the appropriate coils at the appropriate times to make the motor spin.

You could run a single esc +/- to the battery, but you would have to find a place to tap into a motor signal for the esc signal wire.

Most aio fc’s don’t have those broken out. Some will have a couple broken out, I’ve got a few that have the signal for motor 5 and 6 broken out into pads because it’s only got 4 onboard esc’s, and I believe you can remap the led pad (maybe others?) to be a motor signal.

Standard non-aio (no included esc’s), yes, you’ve got the right concept- wire the esc +/- to battery, and wire the signal to m1 pad, m2 pad, etc.
Dangerous operations.

Yeah sorry I've never taken a motor apart nor really researched how these motors spin.  i just did and now get the stator spins the rotor by cycling power through the stator and the rotor spins due to magnetism.

So the ESC on an AIO is power on all 3 wires.  Ok that explains it and I think i understand it now.

So on the FC below the connector on the back shows ESC 1-4.  you would connect the signal wire from the ESCs to those 4 wires from the connector.  Then connect the power wires to the battery power (assuming you weren't using a PDB).

Yup, you‘ve got it.

My turn to ask a basic question about individual esc’s to those with experience with them: Big Grin

Is there any specific special flashing method that they require? Or would I just go to esc-configurator.com as usual and flash as normal? I’m guessing it would detect all 4 via their signal wires?

I know I’ve seen some that require you to calibrate the throttle range, etc, but I think this is only if not using dshot?
Dangerous operations.
