Is there something special about the OTG adapter I need to look for or is it pretty generic? Any OTG cable adapter will do, just be shure to check your device USB type. The usual is micro type B, but newer phones (and maybe some tablets) now came with type C USB (the round type USB). check this image Posts: 1,013 Threads: 11 Likes Received: 452 in 349 posts Likes Given: 372 Joined: Dec 2017 Reputation: 16 30-Mar-2018, 03:24 AM (This post was last modified: 30-Mar-2018, 05:38 AM by Sugs. Edit Reason: Ooops, not Type-C, meant Micro-B ) Yes, I have the USB Micro-B on my tablet, same as the FC. So a male to male cable with Micro-B on each end should work. (Let's work this out in steps) 1st check this (FC to PC): Connect the FC to the PC (to see if it really works), then launch the Betaflight Configurator (PC), and check that you're running Betaflight Firmware. Go to the CLI tab, and type : version You will get the BF version, it must be 3.?? and up If this works, let's take a look at the Android device Connect the USB OTG adapter on the device side (not the FC side), then connect the USB cable (same that you used on the PC) to the adapter and to the Flight Controller board (Note : If you connect the other way around, the FC will power, but it will not work) The app should now see the FC ("Flight controller found(CP210x based)") and will try to comm with it. You can be prompted (once) to allow conection to USB device by the App, please choose "Always". Everything should work ok now. ... but if not: Please try other USB cables (that you're 100% shure that work ok, not USB cables used just for charging, those ussualy lack the comm wires). Also (an very important), avoid very long cables, those sometimes don't handle carrying enought power to power up the drone FC & all the others boards (TX', ESC, etc) Also consider, to power the drone with the lipo, then attach the USB cable (this way the drone will for shure have power to handle all the eletronics), this looks like the problem you also descrived ("phone is an lg v10, my old galaxy s3 does not power up the fc(no lights)"). You also report what looks like a FC problem (solid red light w/blinking green(4 short, 4 long, repeat) Are you really able to arm/fly your drone (as it is now), and connect to Betaflight PC ? If not, please take a look at this post : https://github.com/cleanflight/cleanflight/issues/2023 (you might have an FC problem here) • Posts: 5,322 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,159 in 1,747 posts Likes Given: 2,032 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 There is a new app on iOS and Android called "SpeedyBee" it's free and seem to work great as an replacement for Betaflight configurator on Mobile and bluetooth. What do you think of that compared to yours? is there still any advantages to use yours since yours is a paid app? • Posts: 29 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 23 in 12 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 2 (21-Apr-2018, 10:52 AM)Oscar Wrote: There is a new app on iOS and Android called "SpeedyBee" it's free and seem to work great as an replacement for Betaflight configurator on Mobile and bluetooth. What do you think of that compared to yours? is there still any advantages to use yours since yours is a paid app? Betaflight configurator allows you to manage multiple drones and configurations. It can migrate saved configurations to newer versions. It can do a full backup/restore of configurations. You can use Betaflight CM with ANY version of BF since 3.0.0 Please note that Betaflight CM, it's not the only paid android app for Betaflight (I can name at least another 2). It's only natural that we (developers) get some sort of return for our hard work & support. The app you mention works with bluetooth modules (that they sell) and so it's not really free. Betaflight is a constant improving firmware with a lot of internal changes that require the configurator to be updated, let's see for how long that tool is "free" and if they support upcaming versions of BF. Betaflight CM is supporting BF command set/features since vs 3.0.0, & will continue to do so. ... in the end, it's all about user preference & user support !? BTW, did you noticed that this reply came in less than 24h ?, and prior to that there was a question from a user about a problem that was really related with a hardware problem ? (that was gladly replyed). Just made a post and then saw this. I’m going to run this on google play flashed to an amazon hd8 (if it will let me, I’ll know when the otg gets here, but will install free version to test it out next chance I get) Super convenient as I just remembered I had a 2017 hd8 I flashed over for games that I forgot about. Even for 2$ it seems far better than the other android store options. Hopefully I can install like I would the apk for playstore and run similar to how that runs... we shall see! I’ll give it a review as soon as I am able. Very hopeful to have this no computer that runs well situation potentially fixed for 8 bucks (including the cost of your app) Now to find WiFi and get on it. Thanks again, keep the updates coming! • Posts: 5,322 Threads: 673 Likes Received: 3,159 in 1,747 posts Likes Given: 2,032 Joined: Jan 2016 Reputation: 139 (22-Apr-2018, 12:37 AM)PViegas Wrote: Betaflight configurator allows you to manage multiple drones and configurations. Is there only 3 “save files” for 3 quads, or is there a higher limit for how many quads can be saved to the app. From checking out the free version, I like it! Now if my cable can come in soon, I’ll see if my hd8 has otg and then I will absolutely buy the full version. Very nice app, the ui is slick and easy for me to understand, which is great because I’m not the brightest led out there, and I’ve never used betaflight before (one time and it wouldn’t work) • Posts: 29 Threads: 2 Likes Received: 23 in 12 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 2 (24-Apr-2018, 03:52 AM)Jakefpv Wrote: Is there only 3 “save files” for 3 quads, or is there a higher limit for how many quads can be saved to the app. OK I'm confused, looks like you're not talking about Betafligth CM (from Racedronesoft). This thread is just about that (support for Betafligth CM - from Racedronesoft). Don't get me wrong, but I thing it's better to start another thread for others Apps • Posts: 3,533 Threads: 265 Likes Received: 2,610 in 1,545 posts Likes Given: 3,893 Joined: Feb 2018 Reputation: 78 (30-Mar-2018, 03:24 AM)Sugs Wrote: So a male to male cable with Micro-B on each end should work. Hi, Krohsis Yes, a Micro-B to Micro-B OTG cable will work, but it's not easy to get one of these (the usual OTG adapter is usualy more available) For reference here goes a link of the Micro-B to Micro-B OTG https://www.startech.com/eu/Cables/USB-2...UUSBOTG8IN • Posts: 1,013 Threads: 11 Likes Received: 452 in 349 posts Likes Given: 372 Joined: Dec 2017 Reputation: 16 (24-Apr-2018, 01:21 PM)Krohsis Wrote: PViegas, is this true, a double male Micro-B will work? But you can get the cable from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Mobi...to+micro+b |
