What do you recommend to go with, Analog or HD? I have limited knowlede on these and i will appreciate if some could guide me on what to go with. I found a DJI PNP drone, thinking about getting it along with DJI goggles. Or do i need to start with a cheap analog setup to begin with and later upgrade? Thanks in advance. • Posts: 21,282 Threads: 587 Likes Received: 8,973 in 6,640 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 04-Oct-2021, 10:55 PM (This post was last modified: 04-Oct-2021, 10:55 PM by SnowLeopardFPV.) If you have the money to spare then just go the digital route and don't look back Analogue still has it's place for micro quads and long range, but for a newcomer to the hobby who isn't on a budget then going digital is the obvious option IMO. BTW, welcome to the forum • Posts: 590 Threads: 16 Likes Received: 176 in 149 posts Likes Given: 26 Joined: Jun 2021 Reputation: 8 04-Oct-2021, 11:36 PM (This post was last modified: 04-Oct-2021, 11:38 PM by MrSolo.) I started out on digital. I could afford it, and wasn't already invested in the older analog setups so it made perfect sense to jump into digital. But I was also sure I would love his hobby, so I didn't mind dropping that much money on a full digital setup. I took the risk on a new system and I am glad I did. If you aren't sure if it is for you then you could try a cheap or used analog goggles + radio, and a cheap bind-n-fly quad like a crux3. • Posts: 76 Threads: 12 Likes Received: 10 in 6 posts Likes Given: 5 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 1 I was also in this same dilemma. I ended up going digital on my purchase. As others have said, if you have the funds, go digital. I haven't regretted it. buy once, cry once. You can get adapters to use analog if need be. • Posts: 4,731 Threads: 392 Likes Received: 3,231 in 1,827 posts Likes Given: 3,214 Joined: Apr 2019 Reputation: 101 I'd say even if you had the budget, the proper way to go is analog first. To Snow's point, digital currently is still hardly ubiquitous. Although racing is warming up to Shark Byte, that along with long range still typically use analog due to digital's limitations in latency and range. For that reason, I believe analog will be around for a while and as such, a good thing to know its ins and outs. And while a lot of people do just jump into digital now, I feel that coming from the analogue era gave me an appreciation of the technology and I can happily fly both analogue and digital without getting snobby about digital being "far superior" to analogue, and "how can you fly with that crappy image?" comments that you often see from some stuck up owners of digital equipment who like to look down on others. I still feel somewhat nervous flying digital compared to analogue. Analogue to me just feels more reliable and the gradual breakup happens in such a way that you can easily fly out of it to get a good image back. The "artificial" way that digital breaks up when the signal gets bad or has an issue puts me on edge because you don't know if/when you are going to end up with a completely frozen image or the goggles rebooting themselves due to loss of signal which can take forever to recover (up to 30 seconds), unlike analogue. There is so much processing going on with a digital image transmission that there are 10x more things that can go wrong potentially resulting in the loss of a $500+ quad. At the end of the day, only YOU can decide which option to start with Posts: 771 Threads: 5 Likes Received: 443 in 325 posts Likes Given: 209 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 14 I went digital at the beginning of the year but I did have to backorder the goggles, at that time plenty of vista or air units were available. I've worked with analog video for years and I'm generally not a snob when it comes to high resolution and am well versed in the pros and cons of both. But for where I fly, all outdoors, mostly field, under 1km, mostly away from any buildings since I'm not flying anywhere with explicit permission and my conscious won't let me break something and just bail. My buddy started in analog to save money but still regrets "wasting" the money and ultimately going digital as soon as he put the goggles on and flew one of mine. I'm actually surprised at how well the DJI setup works at 700mw and have a good feel of how far I can push and when to turn back. Being able to see the straggle of branches and brush outweighs the the various advantages that analog has over DJI for me. This will be the first time using analog in a while since I've basically migrated all my freestyle builds to SB. I should film myself for the reaction lol. • Posts: 85 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 22 in 19 posts Likes Given: 51 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 0 Pretty sure OPs post is spam. • Posts: 21,282 Threads: 587 Likes Received: 8,973 in 6,640 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 (08-Oct-2021, 08:35 PM)Luap Wrote: Pretty sure OPs post is spam. I found the exact same text on a site called "community.uavcoach.com" They've since deleted the post, but it still shows up on a google search for me. • Posts: 21,282 Threads: 587 Likes Received: 8,973 in 6,640 posts Likes Given: 1,425 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 789 (09-Oct-2021, 02:55 PM)Luap Wrote: I found the exact same text on a site called "community.uavcoach.com" They've since deleted the post, but it still shows up on a google search for me. I found it in Google cache. Seems to be someone with the same user name... https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/s...topic/9727 The link itself isn't malicious or spam as far as I can see so I guess the best course of action for now is to keep our eyes peeled. • Posts: 3 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 0 in 0 posts Likes Given: 2 Joined: Oct 2021 Reputation: 0 Sorry, This post is not meant for any spam. Just saw a few replies like that. I posted the same query on 2 or 3 forums as I thought the people who will be using the forums are very few these days. I was able to get in touch with some local people here who were really helpful which I really appreciate. What I could least understand was that if budget is not my concern, HD ftw. But it will give some knowledge and learning experience to try out the analogue and then move on to the HD to pair it with a basher quad till I have some flows and least crashes lol. Thanks, everyone for the replies. However, the Roma quad that i linked in the post went out of stock. So i am giving analogue a try first time and move on to HD soon. Its difficult to get drone parts here in India and very overpriced as the imports of drone parts are prohibited by law. I will keep my progress posted here guys. Thanks alot for the valuable suggestions. • Posts: 85 Threads: 1 Likes Received: 22 in 19 posts Likes Given: 51 Joined: May 2021 Reputation: 0 Sorry, i'll adjust the PID controller on my spam sensor with immediate effect!
