Aio mini cam as action cam replacement?
#1
Hey guys, ordering my frame for a 3/4 inch next week (still deciding on frame size!)
In the meantime I thought I’d try something out.

Is there a reason I haven’t seen many people fashion up a makeshift case for these types of cameras, and run it as an alternative for GoPro style cams on mini and micro quads?
It says it records in 720hd, but the issue is latency when recording AND transmitting.
So I figured I could keep my current camera and tx, and set this up on top of the quad, strictly to record, with the power tied in either to a very small battery, or right into the fc. I hav several 150mah 1s batteries and they way next to nothing, so I could potentially use that and not have extra draw on my main quad batteries to keep flight times as long as possible.
Can I run a lipo directly into this camera or do I need something between the 2?
On amazon there usb a reviewer who did this same thing, 3D printed a case and it looks and records amazing, how can I get 3D printed parts without a printer, usb the a website I could use?

Is there a reason people aren’t doing this already, or is it being done but in a better way? I could see the Runcam Split micro being set up this way, but this is much lighter. I don’t need 1080 60fps recording because I’m just a hobby enthusiast, nothing serious.

Thoughts, concerns,comments?

So I found the cam on amazon for 8 bucks shipped, bought that, and got a 3d printed case (3) in various thicknesses to determine the best weight to protection possibilities.
Can I run a lipo directly into this camera or do I need something between the 2?

Will add to this post when it arrives.
The cam is 4.5, the 100mah 1s I have is 5.5, so 10grams there.
The connections from the camera are 5v, gnd, and vo.
Can I hook up a lipo with positive (red) to 5v and negative (black) to the ground, or does it not work that way?
If so I can simply unsolder the 3 wires on the camera, and solder in an adapter cable for my 1s lipos and just leave the vo blank, correct? Or will this cause magic smoke because I’m dumb and am completely missing how these things work?

There’s a few weight drop mods for the mantis, so I can try those out, one of which idk about-plastic scream for the frame, seems sketchy but maybe I’m wrong?)
Also the cam is ok from 3.5-5.5, so I could potential hook it up to my quads power from the fc (assuming I can figure out which pads are the 5v lol)
Figured rubber band wouldn’t weigh much (mini ones from my work) to band the battery to the case, don’t wanna use Velcro as the cam wont save if power is cut before stopping the recording.
Not familiar with abs printed stuff, but the case is very small, so I’m hoping it will be under 10 grams.

Found a company that 3D prints and had amazing reviews, for the 3 I paid 13 bucks after shipping.

The guy has it printed @3grams with 0%inlay. So essentially a hollow mount, I’m receiving 4 of them. That’s 7.5 grams total weight, add .5 and wiring, plus going to set it up so the camera can Be removed via a plug.
Hopefully this can get me closer to real hd footage on my quad. Making the videos has been as fun for me as flying so im very excited

I used a micro Lantian DVR, then this one was released 2 days after I ordered it, $5 cheaper and exactly the same when removed from the case! At 2.3g it actually worked on a 1S brushless setup (0706 motors with 66mm props). Very frustratingly one of the motors spat a prop during the 1st "flight time at a hover" test, it took a tumble and broke a prop shaft on the edge of the table. Dammit!

I considered that, but really wanted video without all the noise in it that comes from 5.8g feed with crappy goggles lol.
4.5 gramsfor the camera and the mount is just 3 grams. Might be too much for my mantis but it might not. Just waiting on the parts
