4S toothpick using HX115 frame
#1
As a fan of building toothpicks I always like the challenge of builds at this size.

My latest project is a 3s-4s toothpick, mainly to use up the 400-500mah batteries that I have lying around not getting used.  Pathetic excuse for another build right? lol..

With a combination of parts lying around and some random purchases I got together this spec.
  • BetaFPV HX115 - 3" frame
  • T-motor 1106 6000kV motors
  • GEMFAN Hurricane 3018-2 props (these are badass)
  • NamelessRC 412T AIO FC, 2-4S
  • A Buzzer - stashed under the RX which is under the FC
  • CRSF nano RX with the mini immo-T antenna - so cool..
  • CADDX Baby Ratel - this cam is nice, yet to test fully but if it's like the big Ratel then I'll be happy.
  • AKK "backpack" VTX and MMCX dipole antenna - not my first choice and the antenna mount is not the best - i might change it out after a couple of crashes, will see how it performs.
  • TPU canopy print sourced from thingyverse - it's a low profile canopy with a thick core.  Works well to keep the jello out albeit it is quick heavy and not suited to light weight toothpicks or whoops.
I plan to run this on some 450mAh 3S and 460mAh 4S packs, especially the BONKA 4S packs.  BONKA batts are great quality and punch.

Here it is with the 4S pack ready for rippage.

In the pic below you can see the crossfire mini antenna and the baby ratel joystick control plug stick out the back.

Hope to get some DVR action soon.

To do list.
  • Prelim PID tune put in place, reduced all PIDs using sliders to 0.9, 0.8 and stock on the three PID Profiles.
  • Maiden flight will be a 4S tune on lowest PIDs for safety and reduce the chance of a flyaway.
  • BF 4.1 installed
  • RPM filters not installed yet - to confirm issue with the namelessrc FC and the BLheliS firmware before going forward.
  • Fine tune baby ratel camera
  • Might change out to a nano vtx depending on how well the akk vtx works out after a crash or several.
Cheers,

ph2t.

OK, so I got a maiden flight in today whilst at work.   The bi-blades scream and it is pretty loud, lol.

For the tune I used to the PID settings on the 0.8 multiple on the PID sliders.  Stock and even 0.9 multiple are too high.  The 0.8 multiple seems to work well.   This thing is twitchy as all buggery so I think I'm going to reduce the roll axis rates and mayby up the expo also to soften the stick feel further.

4S on these 1106 6000kV motors is a bit hot.  There is voltage sag on full throttle that's pretty heavy, having said that it is fun to fly.

In the end I adjusted the uptilt on the camera, it's pretty high now at approx. 45-50deg.

My main issue is some video noise.  It could be the vtx - as I said I'm not 100% keen on the one I used and will change it out.

Could anyone offer any suggestions as to why I have the noise/static as shown below?  It's an AIO flight controller so the camera is powered off the vtx which is powered off the FC.

Here's a video of the maiden flight - still some tuning to go.  It handles ok for now.  No RPM filters applied yet.   I recorded the sound on my phone and added it in the edit.   It is a loud toothpick.  Not subtle at all, lol..

Any help on the video quality is appreciated!

cheers,

ph2t.
