Obviously ruined. I'm looking for ideas on discharge and disposal. I'd rather not hook them up to my charger. Deal Here's the Deal
10" 6S FR10-G Long Range, 5" 6S Rooster, 5" 6S Badger, 5" 6S QAV-S, 5" 4S Badger, 5" 4S Phreakstyle Slam, 5" 6S Yema, 5" 4S Stark, 3" 4S Gecko, and a 3S 2.5" Tadpole, all of which are Crossfire. Tinyhawk, Tinyhawk S, and a DJI Spark. And projects on the bench.... • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 10-Oct-2019, 12:07 AM (This post was last modified: 10-Oct-2019, 12:09 AM by voodoo614.) I use smoke stopper. Short the smoke stopper and use the lit bulb to drain the lipo. It will take a while. I check the lipo with a DMM before I deposit of it. If you want to make it drain quicker, use it in a flight before you put it in a smoke stopper. If you don't want to discharge, places like Best Buy has a spot for rechargeable batteries. I am not sure if they meant lipos, but I don't see any warning against them. • Posts: 21,408 Threads: 595 Likes Received: 9,033 in 6,687 posts Likes Given: 1,428 Joined: Jun 2018 Reputation: 796 10-Oct-2019, 12:22 AM (This post was last modified: 10-Oct-2019, 12:23 AM by SnowLeopardFPV.) 1S LiPos seem to just die after some time if they don't get used because people just tend to leave them either discharged or fully charged, neither of which is good for a LiPo cell. I also recently found 3 puffed ones that I had to dispose of. I have a URUAV LiPo killer but it takes an age to completely discharge a LiPo down to zero volts (more than 24 hours for each 1S LiPo) so was quite a painful process. Voodoo's smoke stopper suggestion will probably be quicker. Oh, and once discharged, don't forget to cut the pigtail off and stick it in your box of spares. You never know when the JST connector and/or complete pigtail might come in useful as a donor part I know most people don't bother storage charging 1S LiPos, but I've now actually started doing that with mine to try prolong the life of the remaining ones that I have left. Similar story here, looks like I have puffed cells. I presume if I can feel any springiness under the outer wrapper, kind of like a blister, this is 'puffed' and need discharging and disposing? Some cells I have are very solid, some have a tiny bit of give and a couple are quite springy. It's hard to tell where to draw the line, I have 17 of them and I'd say 4 are clearly 'solid'. • Posts: 12,098 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 (28-Jan-2020, 12:47 PM)Diggery Wrote: Similar story here, looks like I have puffed cells. It is difficult to make a judgment when a pack is too puffy. I usually go by how well the lipo is still performing. If I get bad performance and puff, it is time for retirement. |
