10 inch build

I'll give that a try.  Also I'm not sure I got a good calibration in the bh heli configurator.  What about calibrating in BF?

EDIT:  I reflashed the ESCs and I can't get it to do the same thing.  Maybe the first flash didn't take on that ESC...

Sort of off topic, you mentioned mounting the LR antenna vertically. I assume that your 900mhz antenna is a "T" type? If that is the case, so just slide the whole into the beautifully colored antenna guide, allowing one side to lie along the the main antenna wire?

Not sure it that is making sense...

I get your question.  I make my own antenna as the Immortal T is less than perfect.  You can see my tutorial in the tutorial section.  Also the T is difficult to mount vertically. They do have 3d printed mounts for the T if that is what you want to use.

That's pretty agile and impressive for such a large quad. I'd always envisaged these size things to be quite cumbersome to fly and control, but clearly not!! I wonder how much these size quads actually weigh when they're fully kitted up with everything and a battery? Krohsis - what does yours weigh?

I was actually really surprised once the pilot started to get some altitude!  I can tell the difference between my 3" and 6" quads, the larger machine definitely has more mass so felt it would be a slow video...WRONG!

Yeah, most of the guys that build these they are building 10 inch hot rods and freestyle quads.  As you saw the 10 inchers perform.  Actually there is a movement to start a 10 inch racing class.  I don't have any interest in that, but the 10 inch class can be a good long range quad too.

In the video you posted that is the true X version to my stretched X version.

My maiden flight went awesome.  Video is coming, all DVR as I didn't put the session on it.  I was pretty uptight, but by the end of the flight, which I cut it at about 1/2 battery, I was starting to relax and have a little fun.  It flies great but very different.

Looking forward to your flight!

That sounds so bitchin in the video, I may have to build one just for that.

Krohsis, does yours sound like that in person?

Yeah Sugs, that was one of the draws to the build.  Being a gearhead, I like to compare it to an import hot rod (a 5 inch quad) to a 70s muscle car with the big block V8 (the 10 inch).

Here are a couple videos of the maiden, and some data.

The AUW on the quad, less the Session as I didn't want it on in the event things went horribly wrong is 1573grams.  It is a heavy thing in your hand.  But a lot of that weight is the battery which in this case is a 6s 3700mAh battery.  I have gotten used to the small crack from hooking up the battery to the quad with 4s batteries.  On my helicopters we use 6s batteries.  When I hooked the quad up for the first time with the 6s, I got the typical arching crack that I used to be used to, but I about jumped out of my skin.

All went well for a short flight, about 1/2 of a battery.  But I was so stressed out.  After a while I settled in a bit and enjoyed the flight.  The quad feels very different in the sticks.  More solid and stable, but not sluggish.   The props in view of the FPV cam was a little distracting at first, but within a minute I didn't see them anymore.  That is one thing that a stretched X gets you.  Also the FPV cam was set at about 15-20 degrees as I knew I would be flying slow.  Once the cam is more at my normal of about 30 degrees the props will be different in the cam view.  It will be interesting to see how the props look in the Session view.

The motors and ESCs were cool after the flight.  I was concerned with the varying reports of hot motors after BF 3.4.

As some of you know I profess staying at or below 10 amps in flight as that is the credo of a long ranger.  It is far easier to do so on this quad than my 6 inchers.

At the end of the flight video, you can take a look at the DVR display of data if you like.

The landing gear worked fine, even with a somewhat hard landing at the end.  I think the legs need to be about a 1/2 -3/4 of an inch longer for a skid plate, etc.

Oh, the Foxeer FPV cam is SOOOOOOO much better than any RunCam FPV cam....the image quality is awesome in the Foxeer.  I won't buy another RunCam FPV cam.  I'm hopeful the new Falkor Foxeer cam will be even better.  I have 3 versions of RunCams, and they all suck...some suck less, but they all suck.  The Foxeer is 3-4 times better...what they all should be at a minimum.

It flies!!!!!!!

Sweet, John! Cannot wait to see more footage as you start to get the machine tuned. Even if it was a short flight by your standards, it is a flight and that is the important part.

Have to agree that the Foxeer cam seems to have much better image quality and I am glad I bought one after the last year and a half flying RunCam. I will not rush out to replace the RC's, but the image was so much better I initially thought something was wrong with the FOXEER!!! LOL.

Heather and I are headed out early tomorrow and I will fly a few packs at the park. If everything checks out there, I am thinking a trip to the dam for something new Smile

Wow...that is a monster in both weight and the way it flies. It's not a surprise that your heart was in your mouth!! Big Grin

Congratulations on getting this beast up and running Big Grin

BTW, I think you took longer than me Whistling Tongue

Thanks SL, and yes touche, I was slower than you..... ROFL

Here is a very short vid of a couple fly bys my wife got.  Not as deep a tone as some, but I'm only running 5 inch pitch, and the hot rod guys are running 7+ inch pitch.  Still a hoot to fly.

Love the low humming as it passes by!  More a cruising hornet than an angry bee!
