Posted by: CurryCat - 10-Feb-2016, 08:46 PM - Forum: Analogue FPV System - Replies (2)

Between CMOS and CCD FPV camera's, what is the difference and which is better and why.  Huh

Can anyone shed some light on this please and hopefully in plain English (bit dumb with electronics)

What is linear polarized antenna, and What is circular polarized antenna?
Posted by: indiastar - 10-Feb-2016, 08:42 PM - Forum: General Topics - Replies (2)

I have been told I shouldn't use linear polarized antenna, with the circular ones, But I have no idea what these are!
I know my cloverleaf antennas are CP, but what about Linear Polarised?

I only plan to run circular polarized for the time being. I do have a few whip style antennas and those must be circular, correct? since they worked with my CP that is on my quad, the whip is on my ground station.

Can I use RHCP antenna with LHCP antenna for FPV?
Posted by: indiastar - 10-Feb-2016, 08:36 PM - Forum: Analogue FPV System - Replies (5)

I have been using RHCP antenna on my quad.

But I need an extra antenna this weekend, I can get it from a local shop, but they are all out of stock with RHCP antennas, only have LHCP in stock.

So can I mix RHCP with LHCP? or Do should I replace both my VTX / VRX antenna with LHCP antennas?

Mounting Flight Controller upside down in Mini Quad
Posted by: fpvmonkey - 10-Feb-2016, 08:19 PM - Forum: Flight Controller - Replies (3)

can you mount a Naze32 flight controller upside down and adjust the orientation in software like you can with yaw rotation?

I am guessing you can, but not 100% sure...

DIY : THIRD HAND at only 19$
Posted by: daprato - 10-Feb-2016, 03:10 PM - Forum: Tutorials, Hacks and How-to - Replies (10)

I bought my first third hand, cheap version on ebay, when I started in this hobby.
- smaller
not quite maneuverable
- hard metal clip with no-needed-teeth
- light weight, no stable
[Image: IMG_8277%255B1%255D.JPG]

My advice : is to build one yourself, good for your wallet and easy to do.
- bigger, space to work
maneuverable, arms stay where you place them
- Soft rubber flat clip
- heavier, so stay in place

PARTS:

  • wooden plate (or whatever plate)
  • Flexible Plastic Pipe 3.66$ ebay
  • Mini Spring Clip 0.37$ HomeDepot or 0.57$ Rona
  • Epoxy 1$ at your dollar-store

  Target Fixation
Posted by: BigglesFPV - 10-Feb-2016, 02:31 AM - Forum: General Topics - Replies (2)

Thought I would share this, for some, you already know what it is, for others you may be aware of it when you fly but never understood why it happens to you.

Ever wondered why sometimes you crash into the very thing or things you try so hard to avoid ?

Have you ever gone into a corner too fast?  Of course you have. What happens next is you tend to look at where you think your quad is going to go and that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. CRASH

It is called Target fixation , this is an attentional phenomenon in humans whereby you become so focused on the object/hazard/obstacle etc that you are actually drawn into it.

It is well documented that this can occur with humans who drive racing cars, fly fighter jets, race motorcycles even down to surfers and us FPV pilots.

For a while I wondered why I always crashed into a particular obstacle and then after reading about Target Fixation it became clear, So now if I see a gap I want to go through I focus on that and nothing else and avoid looking at the nasty trees and stuff either side of it, and most of the time you just go right through the gap.

It is something you have to condition yourself for, as it is normal to be fixated on potential threats/danger.
Without really knowing it as you progress in your FPV flying you will find that your thumbs (or pincher pilots) will be responding to what the eyes see and make inputs on the sticks.  So if you see an obstacle you will move you sticks to fly towards that obstacle, if that happens refocus your gaze quickly to a spot that is "open" and the thumbs generally will follow suit.

Trust me, practice it, and you will find yourself not crashing as much into that huge tree that you were trying so hard to avoid.

  Sonar on Nighthawk 280 Pro
Posted by: trojanGoat - 10-Feb-2016, 01:42 AM - Forum: General Topics - Replies (2)

Hey Gang,

Now that I'm bored with my Nighthawk 280 I think I'll just tune it for videography.  I'm hoping one of you can lend some of your knowledge and tell me how I can connect the Sonar to the skyline32 integrated FC.

I ordered a sonar module from BG a while back: http://www.banggood.com/Wholesale-Ultras...40313.html

I'm using this RX: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store...etery.html

I don't think it's capable of cppm (1 wire for all channels).  At the moment, all 6 channels from the FC are connected to the RX

According to what I read on the interwebs and this video: .  I should connect echo and trigger it to channels 5&6.  I'm not sure if this will work, but the manual for cleanflight says I should connect it to 7&8: https://github.com/cleanflight/cleanflig...s/Sonar.md

Now... what I'm wondering about is, the Skyline32 FC does not have channels 7&8.  Where do I connect the sonar?

Thanks for your help.

  Mixing different brand VTX/VRX antenna
Posted by: MacFly90 - 10-Feb-2016, 12:32 AM - Forum: General Topics - Replies (1)

Do you mix antennas from different companies/ manufacturers/ brands?

I have a Fatshark antenna on my Attitude FPV googles and an unknown antenna on my quad.

My video transmitter is only 250mw and I only get about less than 100 meters of range Cry , is it a sign of lacking power in VTX power?
Or could that be the mixed antennas?

I just ordered a 600mw transmitter and a matched antenna pair to fix that, but still would like to know what you guys think.  Huh

Can I flash BLHeli or SimonK Firmware on KISS ESC?
Posted by: indiastar - 10-Feb-2016, 12:23 AM - Forum: Mini Quad - Replies (4)

i just got some KISS 18A V1.1 ESC from some people in a local flying club.
But can/should I flash them with BLheli or SimonK? If so, can I flash them using the pass through method, e.g. through my Naze32 / SPRF3 FC?
I only have worked with DYS SN20A and littlebee 20A before with flashing firmware.
