Flights logbook schema
#1
Has anyone thought about defining the data schema for a nice logbook?

If anyone's interested in seeing what I have in mind pls drop me a PM.

There are some decent logbooks available online....I use them mostly for maintenance issues, i.e. battery cycles, flight times/distances, etc.

Hi rjalex,

Your diagrams look interesting.  Thinking    {but I can't read the words}

I had not yet thought about diagrams or schemas.  Rolleyes

Personally, I have been using Excel spreadsheets to Log, track, and analyze the various aspects of my builds including, but not limited to the following:  Parts list, Build log, Modifications, Flight Log, and various other data. For me, it has been a good method of tracking things and includes built in mathematical functions.

Wow very interesting. Thanks to you both.

This is my schema and I hope you can see it more clearly:
https://i.imgur.com/EHM3fWQ.png

It has 5 main entities for now:
  • Session (describes where I went, when and the meteo)
  • Flight (describes the individual flight)
  • UAV (describes the quad or other drone)
  • Battery (obvious)
  • Props (obvious)
So with this schema I can descrive that this morning I went to Casal Brunori (one of my spots) with sunny, windless conditions and flew two flights both of which with the Phantom with the Avan Rush props and which individual battery I used on each. For all of this I get a lot of data from BetaFlight's OSD statistics.

Hi have found a few but they seem more oriented to commercial drones with long flights and few batteries and no place for observations I want :Smilean you point out to any example you like? Thanks !

Hi rjalex,

Thanks, yes I can see the words clearly.  The schema diagram pretty much looks like a graphical representation of what I track.  I currently don't log the session conditions, but could. I do, however, add comments and sometimes conditions. To date, I have only tracked my builds, but I think I will start tracking the BNF quad flights as well. {probably not the tiny whoops since they are pretty much just flown in the house and not much to track anyway}

Regarding  your schema: is this some software?  or something?  Huh

It is my logical view which I then will try to transform into some software/spreadsheet of sorts ... don't hold your breath as it is not my profession but a learning project Smile

Would be good as an app... Then I would always have it on me and I like the idea, would make me more consistent

Don't hold your breath since I'm using this idea to learn coding Smile but sooner or later I will release an app Smile

It will log a SESSION (described by date, location and weather) inside which there can be zero (usually not but you could get there and discover you forgot your radio home) or more FLIGHTS.

Each flight will have data such as duration, mAh used etc etc and inside each FLIGHT you will have a specific UAV and a specific BATTERY.

So at the start you might want to describe one or more batteries (eg ID, data purchased, connector, nominal mAh etc) and one or more UAVs

Then if this is useful and used I might be able to evolve it into some sort of "configurator" that would chack consistency between components (props, frames, FCs, peripherals, batts etc etc).

Let's hope for it in 2021 Wink
