Heard a buzzing sound, and then nothing. The leds still are responsive when they should be, and video still transmits just fine, so I’m assuming just the motors are shot. So my question is, are all 8520 motors the same? When replacing them what should I look for. When only one burns out how do you ensure they are going to match the others? • Posts: 12,099 Threads: 125 Likes Received: 3,739 in 2,836 posts Likes Given: 99 Joined: Feb 2017 Reputation: 388 They are not all quite the same. But they should work, because the FC will compensate for the mismatch. On the positive, I know my new batteries work well, just stinks I’m out of commission for a bit. Gunna have to speed up my soldering learning because I still haven’t soldered anything on a fc yet • Posts: 1,504 Threads: 83 Likes Received: 944 in 654 posts Likes Given: 2,142 Joined: Sep 2016 Reputation: 24 If you have an old PC motherboard or any old PCB that is not in use. Use that to practice. The idea with soldering is to get everything up to temperature - pre-tin the pad and the wire, then apply the heat from the iron, while adding a little more solder from the roll, to get the solder on both the wire and the pad to "flow" together. Try to work quickly, some components on the board are sensitive to temperature and should not be over heated, also the longer you apply heat the more likely the surface that you are heating will oxidize, if this happens you will need to apply flux and clean the pad before trying again. A good quality iron and good quality solder are really important to good soldering. Very true!! I really struggled with a normal little DIY soldering iron on my first build. Got a proper soldering station and it changed my world. Still waiting on the motors, however picked up an adjustable temp soldering iron, some flux, and that solder . • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 This is a great economy solder. It flows well and I have not had any bad joints since starting use of it. Not all solders are equal, despite the proportions they claim. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IQN...UTF8&psc=1 SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Br sure everything is clean going in...use a little alcohol on the pads if in doubt. Takes a little practice, but you'll get it! "Damn the torpedoes!!! Full speed ahead!!!" Went to the doctor with a fairly serious sinus infection as well as strept, so will be unable to get different solder until payday. Don’t wanna risk the solder I got if it’s not good. • Posts: 1,290 Threads: 67 Likes Received: 713 in 473 posts Likes Given: 1,216 Joined: Mar 2016 Reputation: 23 On man....I bet you fee like . I was able to solder it back together, and it worked for a while(This capacitor supplies the 5v output for the buzzer, receiver, vtx, and camera. Now the voltage that goes through it dropped to 1.5 volts, and it isn't supplying power to any of my components. On top of that, the esc's won't fully boot up unless I connect it to betaflight. Does anyone know how to fix this? • Posts: 3,288 Threads: 129 Likes Received: 2,740 in 1,644 posts Likes Given: 2,969 Joined: Apr 2017 Reputation: 65 (14-Apr-2018, 11:19 PM)Eli D. Feel better soon...chicken noodle soup, flat sprite and saltines. If you have something to practice on with the solder you have, try making a few joints to see how the solder works. What you have might work great, no way to know until you try it out. SoCal Kaity :D OMG, no one told me it would be this much fun! Been practicing on some dumper electronics I had lying around and I thought it was working but didn’t have anything really to base it off as it’s the only solder I’ve used. Worst part about being budget Fpv is when your bird is down that’s all you got. Gunna get the frog flying again, and then test myself a secondary flyer. |
