Where Are The Racers?
#1
It occurred to me nearly all (if not all?) topics and pics I see are of freestyle.  Do we not have any racers on here?

I have been tempted to put a racing drone together since it would be my first ever.

Most racer's are probably too busy practising on VelociDrone than wasting their precious time on forums Big Grin

Actually, I think Hugnosed might be a racer Thinking

Lol thanks hugnosed you know me too well I was just gonna ask what parts.

In fact you hit the nail on the head ... I keep looking at these BMS motors and looking at the Chameleon they are going on thinking ... am I insulting these motors??  LOLL

No promises but I'm gonna likely start doing some "window shopping."   ROFL ROFL

[edit] Is 20x20 the standard pretty much?

As my buddys flew 30,5mm in the past aswell, they changed to more lightweight frames like the switcback, 20x20mm electronics and even nano cams to get every performance you can get. its going to be a standart in my area.

i wouldnt buy 30mm electronics anymore for a racer, it isnt because of weight or truly the diameter, its about mounting holes and limitation of frames. as example the hobbywing 20x20mm esc is probably bigger than some 30x30 electronics.... as i know the two esc i listed work very nice, in dont see a need to go bigger. just my preference, my 30x30mm electronics fly fine ;-)

Thanks hugnosed.  I may be closer to testing the racing drone waters.

Just went to tune my Chameleon with the BMS Raptors 2000KV on 6S and I don't think that motor is ideal for that heavy a build on 6S with super aggressive filtering lol.  At the lowest D I could feel comfortable on, my fingers still nearly melted when I touched one of the motors.   Cry

I was hoping to get a speed demon Chameleon, but I suspect these motors really were just designed for lightweight racing builds especially if you want to run them on 6S.

@Ronin - How are you going to manage without a GoPro strapped to the top Big Grin Maybe you need to get an ImmersionRC PowerPlay Smile

Nah I would go all out and just use the FPV cam no gopro. But at this point I'm at about 50/50 on it. It's still at the curiosity stage. Mostly, I'm just curious about the difference in handling and what that's like to fly.

Hmmm ... so assuming I won this in an auction for a really good price shipped domestically ... what might you put on it?     Big Grin

I was def thinking a ESC + FC stack (as opposed to individual ESCs) but not sure which.  A Runcam racer?  Cos it says "racer" lol.  No Gopro or any HD thing on here.  For space, I was thinking of a WhitenoiseFPV mounting board for a TBS Unify and a Crossfire nano. Also how do folks mount their Crossfire antennas on these things? Or are they usually rocking Frsky?

The only two things I'm sure of is that I'd use BMS Raptor 2000KV motors on 6S.

Assuming of course.  Big Grin

all my buddies, regardless my own frsky builds, use crossfire. mounting on an arm is a possibility. as it has carbon on the side, throw the whole stack between the front and the rear arms could work nice. as it would be in the area of the arms its somehow more protected, better for practice.

foxeer has very low latency cams, but the runcam racer is a nice cam.

after mentioning which of my cames i like most to fly fast, the winner is an old runcam micro sparrow2 xD with a custom settings preset made by diatone xD
