What do you keep your batteries in, in the field?
#1
If i'm gonna take 10 1S 300mah batteries out to the field, what do I put them in?

I assume my pockets is a no-no?  :p

I would put them in a lipo bag. They cost next to nothing.

Depending on how many you're taking a box like this from the dollar store could be an option but I would still recommend a sleeve type lipo bag as they fit the 1s lipos good.

I have a LDARC ET125 which uses 2s 500mah batts and it comes with a plastic case with an area for batts to be pushed into foam and keeps them from touching eachother. I like this idea too if you wanted to get creative

Nice! I've been wanting a LiPo bag or 2 to keep my batteries safe. Today I built a concrete battery charge bunker and it's definitely too heavy to move around.
I've been using a tuperware container so far but I just don't like all the batteries bangin around in there together. The compartmental storage looks awesome to keep them separate but I'm sure plastic melts like crazy worst case scenario.

Anywho, thanks all..I'm gonna order more batteries/charger/Lipo bags soon and definitely want to be safe.

And ammo can works great.  It's easy to carry.  It holds lots of batteries.  And with a little foam in it the batts stay nice and secure.  And when you get bigger batteries, you will have room to grow.  You can also get smaller cans if the one in the pic is too big.

Just remember to remove the seal in the lid or drill a hole in the can somewhere like the lid.  If you don't and a lipo light off, you have just created a nice improvised explosive device.

But frankly, 1S lipos would just go in my pocket. Big Grin

When I first started in this hobby, the thought of dealing with and storing LiPos scared the living daylights out of me but you come to realise they're not as scary as some of the stories make them out to be (which tend to be extreme cases)...as long as you respect them by not overcharging them, and care for them properly by charging/discharging them to storage voltage before putting them away after a flying session. LiPos only really start becoming a point of concern if the cells start to puff or there is some physical damage to them.

My 4S LiPos live in an ammo box exactly like the one Krohsis just posted. When I was paranoid I used to keep the ammo box in the garage on a concrete floor but now I just keep it in my office inside the house because it's more convenient, another advantage of which is that the LiPos remain at constant room temperature rather than at differing hot and cold temperatures out in the garage. I always charge/discharge them to storage voltage before I put them in the ammo box. I've only cut part of the seal out of the lid to which creates the necessary air gap along the sides of the lid to allow any pressure to escape in the event of a catastrophe, but with the parts of the seal still remaining at the front and rear of the lid, the lid then still clamps down firmly at the front rather than just flapping around which happens if you completely remove the whole seal. Leaving the seal completely intact and drilling holes instead is another option as Krohsis already mentioned.

As for my 1S whoop LiPos, those are a different story. They all just live in a small LiPo safe bag and that in turn just lives in my FPV backpack which stays in the corner of my office. I don't bother putting them in the ammo box and I don't bother storage charging them. Most 1S LiPos aren't that well manufactured anyway and have a limited life so I treat them as disposable items and they just get stored fully charged. If I just go out with my whoop and want to travel light without my backpack then I simply stick them in the pocket of my jeans which also keeps them nice and warm meaning slightly little less voltage sag than with a completely cold LiPo Smile

I just want to add, DO NOT expect Lipo bag to stop a LiPo fire, because it won't. LiPo fire will burn though those bags.

They are only cheap and light weight containers for transportation, it's still safest to store and charge your batteries in ammo boxes as someone has suggested above.

When going out I just wrap them all in a padded bubble wrap bag and carry them in my back pack.

Figured this is probably not the ideal way of carrying them so started looking around which has brought me to the conclusion what is the point of these LiPo explosion/fireproof bags? They may stop the fire a bit?

I watched this video see at about 1:40min and went wow.

I guess my want is I have spent a fair bit of money on batteries and want to store them so if one goes bang it wont take out all of them. To get around this I store my batteries in groups of three and spread them out so if one group burns at least I wont loose them all. May loose a part of the house though but that is better than loosing all my drone stuff Smile

So I am on the hunt for small fire and explosion proof metal boxes which are not too large. Each box needs to be big enough to store 1 x 4s, 1 x 2s and 3 x 1s batteries.

Anyone seen a box like this https://www.phaserfpv.com.au/products/ba...2872417542 but isn't so expensive.

I follow a guy on one of the lesser known YouTube channels who recently made his own. You could do the same with smaller boxes if that is what you're after...

I used to be paranoid about LiPos but I'm fine with them now. As long as you care for them properly and treat them with respect, all the scary looking videos on YouTube are an extremely rare occurrence. The main issues come from either over charging, physical damage to them, or puncturing them. Avoid those scenarios and you should never have a problem. Just keep an eye out for any puffed cells and check the internal resistance of the cells once in a while so you know when they are coming to the end of their life.

I bought the Bat-Safe from HobbyKing (https://hobbyking.com/en_us/bat-safe-lip...e-box.html) for quite cheap and it gave me much more peace of mind while charging packs inside my apartment. I don't even have balcony or anything, so doing it inside is the only way.

When going out in the field, I use the usual lipo bag. Not really for safety as I know that if anything would happen, the bag would not help. I just use it to carry the packs around.

Brilliant a fire blanket in a steel box. I'll head up to the hardware store today and get creative and post pictures when done Smile

This post has inspired me.I call them my Ghetto Battery Safes lol.

Boxes are money safes and are pretty thick steel. Lining is cut up fire blanket.

The green one actually works well for me in the field as it can fit all batteries I need.

The whole setup cost me just over $50 which is a winner Smile
