2 I picked up a Crux3 ELRS. Out of the box I flashed bluejay, flashed to BF 4.4, and applied a toothpick tune. It flys waaay different than my whoop but flys. So I went to go tweak some settings and wanted to check motor timing in esc configurator and noticed I could not change any settings. I tried opening the melody writer and that was locked out also. That’s when I noticed that all ESC’ were bluejay except ESC 4, it said unknown and would not flash. I did some research and found that if you check ignore inappropriate MCU and layout box it flashed. I made sure all ESC’s were reversed and went for a test flight. It would not fly. After looking closely the esc that didn’t want to flash was turning the wrong direction. Soo back to esc configurator I have all ESC’s reversed except number 4 is normal. In betaflight motors reversed and it flys now and I can adjust all esc settings. Any ideas why this is happening?

5 I had some weird stuff happening to my meteor75 when I tried to flash bluejay to it, but different from your case, mine was never able to fly on it.
Maybe the board is not compatible with bluejay and therefore might have some weird behaviors albeit "working". Since you never tested it stock, try flashing the stock bheli_s and test how it flies.. The stock tuning for the crux3 worked pretty well for me, might wanna try using them too for comparison with what you have now. Flying very different from a whoop is expected

2 Hmm, Its just strange that the motor initially spun the correct direction but ESC configurator would not recognize it as being flushable till ignore inappropriate MCU and layout box was checked. I could not flash BLHEli or bluejay to just that one esc. Once checked everyhitn g works without error as long as I set the motor direction. So in bluejay instead of bieng

Betaflight is set to reversed per happymodel uinstructions. Is this going to harm anything or should I try and get to the bottom of it?

786 The Normal/Reversed indicator of the motors means nothing other than to swap them from one direction and the other.
The actual motor direction depends on the hardwired connection of the motor to the ESC. Without changing the direction setting in the BLHeli / Bluejay configurator you can change the direction of a motor by simply swapping over any 2 of the 3 connection wires to the ESC. This means that with the motor set as "Normal" in BLHeli / Bluejay configurator it can still be spinning either clockwise or anti-clockwise depending on how the 3 wires are connected to the ESC. So all your results mean is that 3 of the motors have their 3 wires connected to the ESC in the same way, but the 4th motor has two of the 3 wires connected in a different order compared to the other 3 motors.

5 I had my crux 3 1s connected to BF just the other day and noticed that the stock BHeli_s somehow already has the bidirectional thingy on, so in theory you wouldn't need bluejay on it if that was your intention.
Just remembered this thread and thought of putting it here since it seemed relevant..

786 Yes, the BLHeli_S devs merged one of the BLHeli_M (Jazz Maverick) releases with bi-directional DSHOT functionality back into BLHeli_S, so if you are running BLHeli_S 16.71 or later you now get bi-directional DSHOT and RPM filtering capabilities by default.

41 That damned Jazz Maverick fw has caused me problems on 2 quads. Both BetaFPV and both using (I think) BB51 ESC's. Current boards now come with Bluejay pre-installed, but the older ones are a bit of a nightmare.

5 On my case it was with the Bluejay-Meteor75 (2021) that caused all sorts of issues.
