SOLVED Question?? 2 Versions of Betaflight on same computer?
#1
When upgrading other programs the new program will overwrite the existing one.

Is this true with BF also?

I am close to being ready to upgrade to BF 4.1 but I need to also keep my 3.5.5 on the computer (not upgrading my 3" quad yet)

Is is possible to have 2 versions of BF on the computer or will the upgrade (4.1) overwrite the current version (3.5.5)?

If not, is there a 'work around' so i don't need to remove and reinstall each version when needed?

thanks

You can have two versions. Just rename the directory name of the old program. Or put the newer BFC in a different directory. It has been a while since I have tried it.

I think the new configurator is compatible with 3.5.5. So I don't think you need to keep two versions of betaflight configurator.

You're confusing the Betaflight Configurator (the software that runs on the computer) and the Betaflight firmware (the software that runs on the flight controller). They are two different things.

The Betaflight Configurator is currently at version 10.6.0 and this configurator is able to install and configure any version of the Betaflight firmware on various flight controllers. So you can keep some quads on Betaflight firmware 3.x and others on Beta firmware 4.x but still use Betaflight Configurator 10.6.0 to connect to and configure them all.

So you just need to install Betaflight Configurator 10.6.0 on your computer and you are good to go.

Hopefully this makes sense Smile

Voodoo614 and Snowleopard

Thanks for the explanation. I knew the difference of the software and the firmware but I thought they were in some way tied together. So i thought since i used
BF 10.4.0 to install the 3.5.5 firmware that I would need to keep that version to make changes to the 3" quad.

I had a Senior moment... Cry   I should have realized that the 10.6.0 would be backwards compatible.

Thank you

I dont think that's true, according to the emaxx web site.:https://emaxusa2.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/19000109028-betaflight-configurator-use-correct-version

I think EMAX are just trying to cover their a**e by specifying the versions of Betaflight Configurator that were released at the same time as each of those major versions of Betaflight.

The devs ensure that Betaflight Configurator is backward compatible with previous versions of the Betaflight firmware. I've used Betaflight Configurator 10.6.0 on all 3 of those versions with no issues at all, and a couple of my micros are still on Betaflight 3.5.7.

The Betaflight Configurator GUI is dynamic, so depending on the version of Betaflight that is on the connected quad, it will display different options. For example you won't see the filter sliders or VTX tables on in Betaflight Configurator 10.6.0 if the connected quad is on a Betafight firmware version prior to 4.1.x.

6/27/2021 YOU CANNOT Maintain BF 10.4 and 10.7 on SAME windows Machine My install of 10.4 in a completely different directory thatn the original 10.7 install Killed the contents of my Betaflight\Betaflight-Configurator folder leaving only the older 10.4 available to run. AND IT STILL WILL NOT LOAD AN EXTERNAL hex file from 3.5
Freaking Enuflight is calling apparently Fk this confusion

.. I have installed configurator 10.7, and noticed when flashing firmware to my FCs I noticed the firmware targets only went back to 4.0 or 4.2… someone instructed me to got to the betaflight GitHub page.. there I could locate older hex files.. I’ve gone back as far as 3.5.7 (I had a f4 programmed to operate a servo, the fc died, but I had the file saved.. it was on 3.5.7)
Havnt tried any hex files older than that..
