SkyZone SKY04X: Value of a Secondhand Goggle, Fixing Scratches, Cable Break
#1
Hello,

I recently purchased a goggle online from a private seller, but upon receiving it, I noticed several indicators that suggest it has been strongly used before. I am looking for your expertise to help me with a few questions I have regarding this purchase.

Firstly, I would appreciate your insights on determining a fair price for this goggle, considering its used condition.

Secondly, I am looking for advice on how to fix scratches on the glass of the goggle. If any of you have experience with repairing scratches or know of replacement parts, please share your recommendations.

Additionally, I have noticed a cable break and using shrink tubing.

Lastly, I came across a DC-plug while examining the goggle, but I am unsure of its purpose or possible applications.

Holy smokes! I weep for these poor googles! Not even sure how some of this damage would be caused by accident.

By your description it sounds like the goggles were listed as being in A1 or as new condition and at a price which doesn't reflect the poor condition they are in. There unfortunately seems to be way too many scammers in the used FPV market place.

I would make an intelligent guess that the bodged on barrel connector is probably for powering an external Walksnail Avatar HD VRX module.

You are going to struggle to get those scratches out of the lenses without causing unsatisfactory distortions. I hope you paid using PayPal (and not the family and friends option)? If so then I would strongly advise you to just cut your losses and ask the seller for a full refund. If they refuse then just file a PayPal dispute.

Those things look like they’ve been properly abused and just randomly tossed repeatedly into a back seat after a fly session, and maybe thrown into sand multiple times as well.

As far as value, I hope you bought them listed as “for parts”, and maybe $100 tops, but that’s really pushing it.

Personally, I’d open and inspect them prior to putting them on my head and applying power- the original owner obviously opened them and modified them, and didn’t seem to care about doing things right. Having something catch fire on your face would be unpleasant.

I did a quick search and couldn’t find replacement lens/optics available online, but if you reach out to Skyzone they can probably sell you some.
Dangerous operations.

Disclaimer: I don’t know wtf I’m talking about.
I wish I could get the smell of burnt electronics out of my nose.

Those scratches on the optics look extremely rough and whoever had them didn’t even attempt to take care of them.
There’s no way to remove the scratches.
Replacement optics will cost 200-300 for the screens and optics are all one unit.

They may say no warranty or return, but given that the item was not correctly described and in far from, “In top condition and of course fully functional.”, that’s a more than valid reason to dispute the charge.

Hopefully you used a credit card and not a debit card to purchase it, as credit cards give you more protection.

I have been a Ebay seller (and buyer) for a long time.

My suggestion would be to contact the seller first and tell them that these are nowhere near what is in the description and you want your money back.
If they refuse, then I would go to Ebay and explain what is happening to see if they can do something about it.
