Runcam2 shuts down

Carl, if you bought this on Amazon, you might try filing with them. You also might consider filing with PayPal. Some vendors like to protect their reputation on Amazon, so you might be able to "jolt" them that way. Just a thought.

A ha! great idea. I did buy it on Amazon. I'll try that next.

I didn't go to Amazon yet... and got an interesting reply back from RC today. So since they agree to my conditions (I feel like my hostage demands are being accepted Doh ) I have purchased a new battery with hopes that they keep their word if it's not a proper fix. They must really believe that this is the problem if they are willing to refund the price of the cam and overnight me a new one!

Sorry for the late response. We agree with your conditions. Please buy a new battery to check if it works. Thanks.

So the battery finally came in last week. It seems to have fixed the issue but I am still very unsatisfied by the whole experience and the fact that I lost out on my own personal cash to fix the issue. The fact that it took 2 months to resolve is also a big problem for me.

I've had some troubles with foxeer cameras (especially the mounts on the HS1177) but I am switching officially 100%... I will not be going back to runcam at all and I wouldn't recommend to anyone else.

The RC2 and RC3 have had similar issues, and the eagle was infamous for quality problems. If a company isn't going to do proper QC and wont build quality into their products then they need to have better customer service to do damage control. I am not putting up with this kind of treatment for future products so consider me switched.

Quote:Here are the results of the testing so far:

I was sold a camera with a defective battery on arrival. If your support services had been more effective we possibly could have come to that conclusion a little easier, and I can confirm it has nothing to do with the consumption of the product.

What it comes down to is the battery in the device I bought had bad leads or something. I am able to put the new battery in and throw the camera around with it turned on and it works fine... when I put the other battery back in and toss it around it turns off.

This is a loose connection.

So now I am out the price of the battery, the cost of all the lost footage, and the frustration of this process. but at least I have a camera that's working again.

My conclusion: you don't owe me anything else at this time for this product, but at the same time I will not be purchasing runcam products again and am a brand detractor in Net Promotor terms (I would advise my friends not to buy your brand). In the future I'll happily give my money to Foxeer and advise my friends to do the same.

They must have known about getting a "bad batch" of batteries - it was the first thing they suggested IRCC. This tells me that they had this complaint before. If that is indeed the case, I think a voluntary recall would have been a much better call for them. It will be interesting to see if/how they respond to your last message...

I do plan on buying the split soon, as I have designed a quad with it in mind. However, I will buy it directly from them (using PP) for a bit more "leverage", and I will buy other brands when I have other options. Thanks for documenting this Carl - and sorry for the pain man!

no worries, bad products happen and bad companies don't take care of quality like they should. Working in the Quality profession myself I have higher standards as well, I can see exactly what the breakdown is here and how this company has been stupid with it's practices and just how easy and cost effective it would be to fix.

You ever get it taken care of?

Eventually I got a new battery and then gave the voucher to Scotty.

The runcam doesn't record audio now so I only use it as a second camera in multi-camera shots... which I've only done in 2 videos in the vloggy parts... Plus my gopro is all around a better camera, and I like superview, and it does audio better, etc etc etc... Although, I really need to get a rig together and do some flying... it's been ages x.x

Overall, I am just not a RC customer anymore, and I rarely use that camera is pretty much the result.

Yeah, and I wish I could tell you that my experience was better, but TBH, my RC split is still in the box... Blush

Carl and I was going through Runcam pain about the same time. I had the Runcam 3 that just stopped working. After about a month, I finally got Runcam to give me a refund. Although I will not buy an HD camera from in the near future, I have had good luck with their FPV camera. The Eagle 2 is one of the best I have tried.

Guess I got lucky...sort of......my RC2 works flawlessly...always has. Now...my Night Eagle is another story....the first three I had were crap....The circuit boards kept coming apart (usually at a very bad time). However the Runcam Night Eagle 2 only has one board to begin with and I've had no trouble with that one.

Time has passed since last reply,

but I am suffering the same problem.

I have a Runcam2-4k that stops video once in a while while flying.

It is not a battery issue, because I use also the camera without battery, but behaviour does not change.

I think is a vibration issue and/or electrical issue, and I will change the mechanics in order to test a better camera position on my quad.

Mode and on/off switches are completely handled by sw, and this is not failsafe good practice in flying objects, because motors (and propellers themselves induce indirectly) produce a lot of electric radio noise.

A mechanical switch would be better.

Camera by itself is a good quality camera, and I use it also in OSD mode, but I experienced a few usb connection problems and I think the sw is not very robust.

When it is switched on, my on board gps, that is next to the camera, gets radio interference, this means that camera is not EMC well proof.

This kind of problems are rarely solved by customer support...

Hope this helps,

Alfredo
