Polarised Patch Antenna for Tinywhoops?
#1
I have several Tinywhoops, auch as Mobula 6, Mobula7, TinyHawk Freestyle. And I have the SKY04L Goggles with omnidictionary antenna.

I am searching for a Patch Antenna and I am unsure which one I should get. Most Patch antennas are lefteand right polarized. Can I use them with my tinywhoops, of should I get a not polarized Patch Antenna?

Thanks so much in advance!

Well, most omni antenna are polarised left or right, too. Does your video receiver have two antenna? Are you keeping one as omni?

The three quads you name do not as they come have polarised antenna, they have straight wire dipole.

I think the question is, why do you want a patch antenna? What do you expect to gain? If you fly at an extreme angle to a patch (or worse, behind it) you will have worse reception than an omni.

I am guessing that you are looking for a patch to put on the goggles. Your goggles use two antennas. I run 1 patch and 1 omni on my goggles.

Your quads have no polarization so either LHCP or RHCP will work. I would use the same as the omni you have so if you get a larger quad that does have a polarized antenna, it will still work. RHCP is the most common version out there.

This is the patch antenna I use.

At closer ranges I’ve had the best results with Omni directional.
I kept losing video at close range going one particular direction using one patch and an Omni so I switched to two Omni.
Once I got out further the patch worked great and I stopped losing video in the one particular direction.
Looking at how a patch signal works it seems to makes sense.A flash light beam is small at close range but expands the further away it is.
Painless 360 claims in a video that when using a linear antenna on quad to use a linear patch and a linear antenna on goggle receiver for best performance.
He uses some testing equipment to prove his point.

Linear patch antennas exist to go with dipole(linear) style antennas.
MenaceRC amongst others make them.
