No Stick Response in Butterflight, Qx7, R-XSR
#1
Hi all,

First time quad builder here, no experience or success whatsoever.

I'm getting no stick response in the "receiver" tab of butterflight (all values @ 1500 when moving sticks, see pic 1).

Board: Helio Spring RC
Receiver: FrSky R-XSR
Transmitter: Taranis Q-X7

Notes:

Ports: using U-ART2, the frsky default (?)
(tried U-ARTs 1-5, keeping USB VCP on)

The R-XSR is correctly bound to the receiver (solid green light, see pic 2)

Butterflight version: 10.4.2
(tried downloading Betaflight but could not connect - and heliospring is not a board option on betaflight 10.2)

R-XSR firmware: R-XSR_FCC_170904.frk
(tried LBT_17094 and LBT_171103 but they wouldn't bind to transmitter)

Heliospring firmware: 3.5.1, IMU-F Version 106

Open TX version: 2.2 v 0010
(tried 2.2v0013 but got SD Card Warning, "expected v 0010")

Tried switching computers (PC and Mac)
Am able to spin up motors from butterflight "motors" tab.
TRIPLE checked R-XSR wiring, checked that the pads are well soldered (closed-circuit check with voltemeter)

Things i have not tried:
using a different receiver (ordered only one)
finding older version of butterflight
flashing older firmware onto board
changing taranis stick end values (i should be getting stick movement regardless, right?)

What other steps can i take to diagnosis/solve this problem.
Thanks

I'm not great on electronics, fw, etc but I can tell you that you have the correct firmware for the R-XSR, it's bound to your radio correctly and the R-XSR is soldered to the Helio correctly. So my first thought is that you don't have the correct UART enabled in the ports tab. Can we get a screen shot please. Gotta say, for a first build, you've taken on a pretty complicated setup but there's some members on here that are very experienced in this area and I'm sure we can get you in the air quickly

Are you in SBUS mode? You should have solid blue and green lights.

Just saw your photo, you are in PPM mode. Here is how to switch.

On a side note I would add some kind of insulation to the end of those small wires or trim them shorter and resolder. Those will short very easy once it gets bounced around a bit or goes through some tree branches.
